The Eichelsbach is a good 18 km long stream from the Vogelsberg , in Nidda -Eichelsdorf from the left and east into the Nidda flows.

geography

course

The Eichelbach rises on the west side of the central Vogelsberg, about 600 meters north of the Hoherodskopf and about 800 meters west of its highest elevation Taufstein ( 773  m ). The source is located near the lower edge of the forest in a meadow lined with bushes between the youth hostel and a fork in the road about 1.8 km north-east of Schotten - Breungeshain . From here the stream soon flows to the southwest, accompanied by wood, crosses Breungeshain and then passes Schotten- Busenborn on the right slope. It crosses the following valley towns of Eschenrod , Wingershausen and Eichelsachsen again, they too belong to Scots. Then it flows westward through a waldenge towards Nidda - Eichelsdorf , in which it flows from the left and east into the Nidda , whose source is less than two kilometers north-northeast of his.

Catchment area

The Eichelbach flows in an open valley up to 3.5 km wide, which is traversed by numerous hedges and whose ridge is always wooded on the left and mostly on the right. Its catchment area borders from the estuary in the far west along the northwestern watershed to the north on that of the Nidda. To the east of the Vogelsberg summit near the Eichelbach spring, the Altfell runs via Schlitz and Fulda to the Weser , here the Eichelbach watershed is also the main watershed of the Rhine to the Weser. On the southeast side, the Nidder , which runs far below the Nidda, competes , mostly via its right tributary Hillersbach . On the lower reaches of the west, smaller tributaries run beyond the left watershed to the downstream Nidda.

It has a maximum storage volume of 390,000 m³ and a max. Reservoir area of 11.6 ha and serves as flood protection for Eichelsdorf and the villages below on the Nidda.
