Geographical location

The "Eisenküppel" is located in the north of the ridge , the connecting ridge between the Rhön and Vogelsberg , in the Hessian Rhön Nature Park, which is adjacent to the Hessian Spessart Nature Park . The nearest larger towns are Rückers in the south, Flieden in the west and Schweben in the north . The Eisenküppel is the highest mountain in Flieden in the municipality of Flieden.

To the east of the Eisenküppel, the K82 runs from Schweben to Rückers and to the south the K90 ("Rückerser Weg") runs from Flieden to the K82. The mountain can be hiked from the two district roads. To the west of the Eisenküppel run the Hessian long-distance cycle route R3 and the "Adventure Cycle Route VIA REGIA" from Frankfurt to Krakow and beyond.

The Eisenküppel is located on the former Königstrasse " Via Regia ", which was named a " European cultural route " by the Council of Europe in 2005 .

On the "Old Road" from Leipzig to Frankfurt was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe with the stagecoach road. During an Allied bombing raid on Flieden train station in World War II , a bridge that led from the iron club over the train station to Flieden was destroyed.

The previously controversial motorway connection was not included in the plans for the new A66.
