history

Via Imperii and Via Regia.png
  • The Eisenküppel is located on the former Königstrasse " Via Regia ", which was named a " European cultural route " by the Council of Europe in 2005 .
  • On the "Old Road" from Leipzig to Frankfurt was Johann Wolfgang von Goethe with the stagecoach road. In his diaries he noted on August 1, 1797: "Behind Neuhof it gets rougher at the height, this separates two important regions; as the Fulda with its waters goes north, the Kinzig now falls to the SW of the Main." He reported to his wife on August 27, 1814: “Corn ripe at Neuhof. Between Schlüchtern and Salmünster flax and hemp breaking through small towns and villages, house to house. ” Another trip to Frankfurt, on which Divan poems were written, took him here again on May 26, 1815 between 7:00 and 10:00: " The journey was not sterile. My Divan was increased with 18 assessors. "
  • The Jakobsweg leads past the Eisenküppel from Fulda to Frankfurt, past monasteries, churches and chapels in the region.
  • In the north-east of the Eisenküppel you will find the Eierbauschbaumühle, first mentioned in 1708 .
  • The " Eisenküppel, which belongs to the field of agriculture " with the " Old Field " offers ideal conditions for agriculture. Particularly fertile soils with a high proportion of loess , which due to their special importance for food production should not be built over and sealed, led to the settlement of several agricultural farms that practice agriculture and cattle breeding here, for example the " Ortmannsruh ". The fertile soils on the Eisenküppel mean that the "Old Field" is rather poor in forests. The clearing of fertile soils for agriculture began as early as the Neolithic and Metal Ages.
  • Around 1465, the Fulda prince abbots operated an iron mine in the Flieden region, presumably "on the iron club to the east, which offers a beautiful view".
  • During an Allied bombing raid on Flieden train station in World War II , a bridge that led from the iron club over the train station to Flieden was destroyed.

Others

Eisenküppel - farms and logistics hall

On the western slope of the Eisenküppel, facing the town of Flieden, there is the “Flieden Mitte” industrial park and the motorway connection to the A66 . The previously controversial motorway connection was not included in the plans for the new A66. In order to maintain the motorway connection in particular, the Flieden trade association was issued with the identification of an industrial area on the Eisenküppel. The motorway exit from Fulda to Flieden and the driveway from Flieden to Schlüchtern are located on the steep slope of the mountain.

Future prospects

" In the land of far and wide ", on the iron club, which can be seen from afar, in an exposed position, is being set up by the international, listed property group Goodman , based in Sydney, Australia, a logistics center for the Zufall Logistics Group , based in Göttingen here as a contract logistician for the Korean tire manufacturer Hankook Tire wants to operate a storage and distribution center for 1.3 million tires. The hilltop is currently being removed and the terrain is leveled. With the aim of creating a uniform site level for a 17.5 hectare commercial area. The community representatives of all parties represented in the Flieden community parliament, including the Green community representative and member of the state parliament, Markus Hofmann, have approved the project . The project was made possible by a "state planning decision". The deviation from the regional plan was necessary because the area was not intended as a commercial area. A citizens' meeting on the project did not take place.
