Elevate is the second studio album by the American boy band Big Time Rush . It was released on Columbia Records in association with Nickelodeon . The album was released three days earlier in Germany than in the USA .
Background and appearance
In creating the album, Big Time Rush worked with producers such as JR Rotem , The-Dream , Jay Sean and Ryan Tedder . The production of the album took anywhere from nine months to a year. The band worked on the album for most of it during their US tour.
On June 6, 2011, Big Time Rush announced that there would be a second album. The first promo single If I Ruled The World was released on June 22, 2011. Initially, November 15, 2011 was considered the album's release date, but this was changed to November 21, 2011. On October 14, 2011 it was announced that that the album should be released in Germany three days earlier, on November 18th. Thus, November 18, 2011 was the release date of Elevate , but you could hear the album on Simfy a week earlier, so from November 11, 2011. The album was then named after the song Elevate , which means "to raise" in German means. That the album name Elevate to carry, gave Kendall Schmidt in an interview. At first it was planned that the song Intermission should also be included in the album, but then removed it again. The official list of titles from Elevate was published on October 21, 2011 in the US magazine Celebuzz . The second and final promo single Music Sounds Better With U was released on November 1, 2011.
In the USA , three specials for the album were shown: The music video of If I Ruled the World was shown on July 23, 2011 on Nickelodeon . The music video from Music Sounds Better With U was then shown on November 12, 2011 on Nickelodeon under the title "BTR: Music Sounds Better With U". The third special was a thirteen-minute film entitled "Big Time Rush: Music Sounds Better With U", which showed scenes from their first US tour and the four band members could be seen while recording the album. In Germany, only the music video from Music Sounds Better With U has been shown on Nickelodeon under the same title as in the USA on November 13, 2011, one day later than in the USA .
Overall, the four band members wrote, together or individually, on eight of the thirteen songs, which was only the case with the song Oh Yeah on the previous studio album BTR .
Commercial win
The album debuted at number 12 in the US, while it was already number 3 on BTR . In Germany it debuted at number 33 and was only in the charts for a week, just like in Switzerland, where it debuted at number 76. Despite everything, Elevate sold more than BTR (66,000 sales) in the first week in the US .
