English Rugby Union Championship 2005/06

The 2005/06 season of the English Premiership was the 19th major league season of the English Rugby Union Championship. For sponsorship reasons it was called the Guinness Premiership . It began on September 2, 2005, comprised 22 match days (each a preliminary and second round) and lasted until May 6, 2006. The four best-placed teams then qualified for the semi-finals, the semi-final winners met on May 27, 2006 in the final Twickenham Stadium on top of each other. The Championship was won by the Sale Sharks for the first time , relegated to the Leeds Tykes .

    National Division One

    The season of the second division ( National Division One ) consisted of 26 game days (one first and one second round). The best-placed team, the Harlequins , were promoted to the Premiership. There were no relegated teams this season, as the Rugby Football Union decided to expand the league from 14 to 16 teams.
