Former SULO company
SL Packaging GmbH
SULO had been producing barrels since 1927 and in 1997 this branch of business was spun off into SULO Emballagen Deutschland GmbH . Since 2014 the company has been called SULO Emballagen GmbH . This belonged to the SULO Group until September 2016, when it was sold to the Dutch investor Fields Group and was named SL Packaging GmbH on October 1, 2016 . Here, the rarely used term was Emballagen by the internationally more common word Packaging replaced. The letters S and L are intended to remind of the two SULO founders Streuber and Lohmann.
The SL Packaging administration is located next to the Sulo site on Bünder Strasse in the former Poggenpohl building. Production continues in the buildings that previously belonged to SULO Emballagen GmbH .
At SL Packaging GmbH , as before at SULO Emballagen GmbH , steel drums and special packaging for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry as well as for food, mineral oils and dangerous goods are manufactured. After the Neustadt an der Weinstrasse location, taken over by SULO in 1995, was closed at the end of August 2014 , two million steel drums were then produced annually by around 130 employees in Herford. In April 2016, the Sulo site in Neustadt was sold to a real estate company that wants to build apartments there.
From 1967 to 2004 blown plastic packaging was produced in a plant in Welkers , a district of the East Hessian municipality of Eichenzell .
SULO seating furniture
During the 33rd Hanseatic Day, which took place in Herford in June 2013, Sulo seating was set up in the city, which the Herford designer Oliver Schübbe made from parts of the original 1100 liter garbage containers. The barrel parts used are incurred when the colors are changed on the injection molding machines at Sulo. They have slight color defects due to production. The upholstery consists of recycled advertising banners, truck tarpaulins and used mattresses. After the seating was very popular with the population, it has since been set up on special occasions, such as city festivals, in the city center. Since then ten seat bins have been produced annually. In individual cases they are also given to celebrities.
