Erkan and Stefan are a comedian duo consisting of the German comedians John Friedmann from Munich and Florian Simbeck from Ingolstadt, who appear under pseudonyms .

Career

In order to sell themselves to the audience, to make the characters more alive and to be able to stay incognito , biographies of the fantasy characters were created. Then Erkan Maria Moosleitner was born on December 24, 1979 as the son of Bruce Moosleitner - a combination of the names Bruce Boxleitner and Peter Moosleitner - and his wife Ayşe and grew up as an only child in the poorer Munich district of Hasenbergl . Stefan Lust was born on May 15, 1979 in the problem area of Munich- Neuperlach as the son of Mrs. Lust. The legend of a German-Turkish friendship that began during a trip to the subway in Munich was also invented.

The trademark of the duo was to combine an artificial Turkish accent with the Bavarian dialect of the north of Munich and English slang language, for example "Ey, krass" .

The resulting fictional characters had conceptual similarities to the English-language fictional character Ali G by comedian Sacha Baron Cohen, who appeared for the first time in 1996 . There is also a resemblance to the characters Dragan and Alder played by the Duo Mundstuhl , who speak Kanak Sprak .

1990s

First, the duo went in 1994 with his slapstick in the radio comedy club Ma: d , broadcast by Radio Energy Munich , free of charge on the air. They were discovered for this by comedy author Max Witzigmann , son of the celebrity chef Eckart Witzigmann . This was soon followed by the publication of selected radio episodes on CD and immediately afterwards the first appearance on the Munich cabaret, Liederbühne Robinson . A few weeks later, Erkan and Stefan moved to the renowned Munich cabaret stage Schlachthof, where they initially performed five evenings in the small, sold-out hall “Ox”, and then performed five evenings in the equally sold-out large hall. On the second evening in the large hall they were approached by the film producers Mischa Hofmann and Philip Voges, who wanted to produce a movie with the comedian duo. However, both insisted on finishing their studies first.

1997 saw the two for the first time on the stage of the Munich slaughterhouse. After that, the two played several live programs on comedy stages across Germany until 2001.

2000s

In 2000 the film of the same name was released , directed by Michael Herbig . Building on its success, the sequel Erkan and Stefan - Against the Powers of Darkness came out in 2002 , which however did not achieve the box office success of the first part.

After Erkan & Stefan became more well- known, among other things through repeated appearances in the Bullyparade , the two got their own show: headnut.tv was broadcast for two years on the TV station ProSieben from April 2002 and was nominated for the German TV Prize 2002. After 26 episodes in two seasons, however, the show was canceled again. The essence of each program was to conduct multiple interviews, misleading the interviewees by asking absurd questions. In terms of content, the show was very similar to the Da Ali G Show of the British broadcaster Channel 4, which was already successful in the Anglo-Saxon region at the time .

In 2003, Erkan and Stefan spoke a new “crazy” dubbed version for the cartoon Asterix in America under the new title The Sworn Version: Asterix in America - They check out, the Indians . In the same year, the two lent the vegetarian sharks Hammer and Hart their voices in the German-language dubbing of Finding Nemo .

In the 2004 first broadcast episode Black icons of the fourth season of the ZDF -Krimiserie Die Rosenheim-Cops , the two had a guest appearance as chaotic Handwerkerduo with forged residence documents.

In 2005, the movie Death comes crass followed . In it, the duo played themselves solving a murder on a cruise ship. The film is based on the American production Always Trouble with Bernie . “We always said that after three Erkan and Stefan films there would be no more for now. But of course we pass on, but also differently. ”( John Friedmann ) For example, John Friedmann tries his hand at more serious roles as an actor in less funny and more emotional films like My Mother's Eyes .

On May 15, 2005, in the 156th broadcast of Wetten, dass ..? Erkan and Stefan were able to fulfill a childhood dream with their performance: “We have been fans of it since we were children. That's insane."

On December 2nd, 2005, the first interview with John Friedmann and Florian Simbeck as private individuals was broadcast on Bayerischer Rundfunk in the program Unter 4 Augen . The interview was conducted by Heike Götz .

In 2006 the two comedians were full of crass! - The clip show with Erkan & Stefan on RTL II on the air. The format was repeated several times.

Also in 2006 the two could be seen as guest stars in an episode of Schillerstrasse .

In the comedy series Deutschland ist schön , which has been broadcast since February 2007 , Simbeck and Friedmann played different roles, for example two police patrolmen investigating together.

In the Beckmann broadcast on February 19, 2007, the two “unmasked” themselves for the first time in public and even spoke High German. John Friedmann stated that he now wants to devote himself to serious acting.

In their tour, which started in 2006 after a long break, Friedmann and Simbeck announced in April 2007 that this would be the last as fictional characters Erkan and Stefan.

In 2018 Friedmann and Simbeck appeared again in their role as Erkan & Stefan for the first time since 2006. As part of the Sat.1 show Luke! In the 2000s and I , the duo did a brief stand-up gig . In the Genial beside it - The Quiz editions of February 8, 2019, April 5, 2019 and August 28, 2019, you were part of the advice team. In 2019 they started again on September 17th with a LIVE stage tour, which will continue in 2020.

Word creations

Beyond the parody of Kanak Sprak , Erkan and Stefan are particularly responsible for the creation of the word “brontal” (a suitcase word ), which, according to Erkan, arose when a bird flew towards him “brutally head-on” ( synonym for “crass” or also just "very").

The kebab animal , seen in Rostock

Another Erkan and Stefan originating, well-known concept of doner tiers based on the early bandied in their television broadcasts legend, the flesh of the kebab skewer imagine analogous to suckling one impaled animal. This fictional creatures was named a kebab chain on franchise basis, of Dönertier AG . The company was sold in 2007, filed for bankruptcy in early 2010 and was deleted from the commercial register in autumn 2012 due to lack of assets. The doner animal was also marketed elsewhere, u. a. as a cuddly toy.

They were able to protect some of their word creations under trademark law; However, they were unable to prevent an advertising campaign by the Austrian branch of the fast-food chain McDonald’s , in which Erkan and Stefan used doppelgangers. The lawsuit at the Munich Regional Court failed on the grounds that no one could claim a “monopoly on the marketing of the colloquial language of Turkish young people”.
