Ernst Friedrich Christian von Loebell (born August 11, 1764 in Sahten in Courland , † December 16, 1845 in Trier ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

His parents were Georg Friedrich von Loebell (1723–1768) and his wife Dorothea Eleonore, née Brunnengräber († 1776), a daughter of pastor Andreas Johann Brunnengräber from Dahlen in Courland. His father was an imperial Russian lieutenant colonel a. D. as well as Mr. on Sahten.

Military career

Loebell first went into Polish service in April 1779, but soon switched to Prussian and came on April 11, 1780 as a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Buddenbrock" . On November 1, 1783 he became ensign there and on November 4, 1786 second lieutenant . As such, he took part in the campaign in Poland in 1795/95 . On October 30, 1796, he became lieutenant prime minister . Loebell went on September 14, 1797 as a staff captain in the newly established infantry regiment "de l'Homme de Courbière" and became captain and company commander on May 15, 1802 . During the Fourth Coalition War he fought in the defense of Danzig , where he was seriously injured in a sabotage on April 1, 1807.

After the Peace of Tilsit he was transferred to the 2nd West Prussian Infantry Regiment (No. 7) on January 1, 1808 . There he became major on October 28, 1808 and battalion commander on March 22, 1809. During the campaign of 1812 he fought in the battles of Graefenthal and Temesnow. For Graefenthal, he received the order Pour le Mérite on October 19, 1812 . On July 1, 1813 Loebell came as a commander in the 6th Reserve Infantry Regiment (later: 18th Infantry Regiment ) and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on August 11, 1813. During the Wars of Liberation he fought in the battles near Großgörschen , Bautzen , Dresden , Kulm , Leipzig , Laon , Paris and Belle Alliance as well as in the battles near Bernburg, Weißig, Zinnewald, Beauvette, May, Ville Parisis and St. Martin. At Bautzen he acquired the Iron Cross II. Class and the Russian Order of St. Anna II. Class, at Leipzig the Iron Cross I. Class and for Belle Alliance Loebell received the Order of St. Vladimir . He was also promoted to colonel on December 8, 1813, and on May 31, 1814, he received the oak leaves for the Pour le Mérite. On March 23, 1815, he was appointed brigade commander in the IV Army Corps and on June 30, 1815, appointed in command of Avesnes.

After the war, Loebell was appointed inspector of the Landwehr in the Trier administrative district on August 20, 1816. On March 30, 1817, he was promoted to major general with a patent dated April 5, 1817. On February 22nd, 1820 he was appointed commander of the 16th Landwehr Brigade. On January 18, 1822 he received the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class, on August 4, 1825 the service cross and on April 12, 1830 also the Order of the Red Eagle II. Class with oak leaves for his 50th anniversary of service before he received his retirement as Lieutenant General on December 8, 1831 . To celebrate his golden wedding anniversary on October 25, 1841, he received a diamond tobacco box from King Friedrich Wilhelm IV with a portrait of the king. The general died on December 16, 1845 in Trier.

Loebell married on October 25, 1791 in Tilsit Henriette Wilhelmine Andreae (1773-1846), a daughter of the mayor of Tilsit . The couple had several children:
