Ernst Friedrich Otto von Bonin

Ernst Friedrich Otto von Bonin (born July 23, 1761 in Obernhagen (Regenwalde district) ; † October 27, 1822 at Gut Lupow ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and most recently inspector of the Landwehr in the Münster administrative district .

Life

origin

His parents were Friedrich Fürchtegott von Bonin (* February 17, 1725 - March 16, 1777) and his wife Ernestine Luise, née Gans Edle zu Putlitz (* March 3, 1733 - January 28, 1810). His father was a Prussian captain a. D. as well as hereditary lord on Elvershagen , Obernhagen, Niederhagen , Karnitz and Klein Raddow .

Military career

In 1776 Bonin Junker was in the Hussar Regiment "von Belling" , there he became a cornet on October 5, 1778 . In the War of the Bavarian Succession he fought in the battles near Gabel and Zwickau in 1778/79. On June 25, 1783 he became second lieutenant . In 1783/84 Bonin took part in the blockade of Danzig. On April 19, 1790 he became adjutant of the regiment chief von der Golz . He was promoted to prime lieutenant on January 8, 1793. During the First Coalition War , Bonin fought in the battles near Saarbrücken, Coutiches, Schwalm, Edesheim and Kirrweiler , as well as in the siege of Landau and the battles near Moorlautern and Kaiserslautern . On March 18, 1793, he received the order Pour le Mérite and on May 23, 1794 he became staff commander and adjutant general to the then regiment chief Blücher . With this he had a long friendship. On February 14, 1798 he became captain and squadron chief . Bonin became major on September 6, 1800, and as such he took part in the Fourth Coalition War. He fought in the battle of Auerstedt , in the battle near Lychen and was captured near Lübeck. On March 14, 1808, he received his farewell as a lieutenant colonel . He retired to the Lupow estate, which belonged to his wife.

Bonin inquired about a new use on July 21, 1809, but was referred to the next war. With the beginning of the wars of liberation he became inspector of the replacement troops between the Vistula and the Oder on July 21, 1813 and took part in the siege of Danzig. On January 28, 1814, he was promoted to colonel and received the Iron Cross 2nd class on white ribbon. Shortly afterwards on February 10, 1814, he became the commandant of Danzig. For this he received on June 11, 1815 the Russian Order of St. Anne II Class.

After the war, Bonin was transferred to the Münster administrative district on August 20, 1816 as inspector of the Landwehr. On March 30, 1817, he was promoted to major general, on July 8, 1819, due to illness, he received his departure with the character of lieutenant general and a pension of 1200 thalers. He died on October 27, 1822 at Gut Lupow.

family

In 1790, Bonin married Albertine Friederike Sophie von Podewils (* March 16, 1773; † August 23, 1818) from the Lupow family. She was the heir to lieutenant Carl Alexander von Podewils (1742–1778) and Frederike von Grumbkow († 1806). The following children were born from the marriage:
