Ernst Ludwig von Goetze (* 1697 in Berlin ; † December 19, 1745 in Pennrich near Dresden ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Ernst Ludwig was the son of the Berlin horse dealer Anton Goetze and his wife Dorothea Katharina, née Gercken. His brother Samuel also embarked on a military career and made it major and commander of the fusilier regiment "Prince Heinrich" No. 35. He died on May 20, 1757 near Hirschfeld.

Military career

In 1711 Goetze joined the Infantry Regiment "Anhalt-Dessau" No. 3 of the Prussian Army . With the regiment he took part in the campaign in Brabant under the old Dessauer in 1711/12 . During the Pomeranian Campaign in 1715/16 Goetze was at the siege of Stralsund and in the meantime became an ensign on September 12, 1715 . The following year, on July 5, 1716, he was promoted to second lieutenant . Goetze then came as Prime Lieutenant on March 1, 1719 to the newly formed infantry regiment "Prinz Leopold" No. 27 and rose to staff captain on October 17, 1719 . Goetze was raised to the nobility on June 30, 1722 by King Friedrich Wilhelm I. Goetze rose within the regiment in the following years. On October 24, 1724 he became captain and company commander and on December 20, 1734 major . He fought on the Rhine during the 1734/35 campaign .

When the war against Austria broke out in 1740 , Goetze was given command of a grenadier battalion. For his achievements during the capture of Glogau he was awarded the order Pour le Mérite and in March also received a preamble from the St. Patrokli monastery in Soest as a thank you . Goetze was wounded in the battle of Mollwitz and promoted to lieutenant colonel on April 14, 1741 . The king then sent him in December 1741 to the Margrave of Bayreuth on advertising .

On January 30, 1742, Goetze became the commander of the infantry regiment "Prince Leopold" von Anhalt No. 27, with whom he fought in the battle of Chotusitz . After the victorious battle he was promoted to colonel on May 19, 1742 . Following the acquisition of the date in Wuerttemberg services related Regiment Goetze was born on July 22, 1743 Commander-in-chief. In Brandenburg an der Havel he reorganized the regiment and expanded it through advertising to an initial strength of 640 men in twelve companies . After training and taking over 800 rifles from the rifle factory in Potsdam , the regiment first marched to Berlin and then took part in the 1744/45 campaign. During the Battle of Kesselsdorf Goetze, who had meanwhile been promoted to major general on November 1, 1745, was seriously wounded. He died of the consequences four days later in "Bennerich" ( Pennrich ).

On January 6, 1746, his widow received a lifelong pension of 200 thalers from the king in recognition of his services .
