Ernst Wilhelm Kunz (born September 8, 1912 in Henschhausen , † February 19, 1985 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) was a German painter and sculptor .

biography

Ernst W. Kunz lived in Saarbrücken from 1918 . From 1929 to 1931 he completed an apprenticeship as a painter . After a three-year apprenticeship from 1931 to 1934 as a decorative painter , he attended the Stuttgart School of Applied Arts . From 1934 to 1938 he worked as a craftsman and freelance painter. This was followed by a visit to the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 1938 to 1939 . During his apprenticeship with Hermann Kaspar, Kunz u. a. Otto Pankok , Friedrich Schneidler , Karl Bonatz ( Paul Bonatz ?) And Olaf Gulbransson , who influenced him in his work.

From 1939 to 1945 Kunz was a soldier in the Wehrmacht and was deployed in the theaters of war in France, Africa and the Balkans. After the war he settled in Ursenbach in the Odenwald .

From 1948 onwards he studied regularly in France ( Fontvieille in Provence ). In 1959, Kunz moved to Ludwigshafen am Rhein at the invitation of the city administration . In 1962 he was the initiator and pioneer of the artistic application of the "full-form casting process" using the new plastic Styrofoam . Kunz received the Slevogt Medal from the State of Rhineland-Palatinate. In 1985 he died in Ludwigshafen am Rhein.
