Yevgeni Igorewitsch Svetschnikow ( Russian Евгений Игоревич Свечников ; English transcription: Yevgeni or Evgeny Svechnikov ; born October 31, 1996 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk ) is a Russian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Detroit Red League since October 2015 in the National Hockey League and in parallel for their farm team, the Grand Rapids Griffins , in the American Hockey League .

Career

Yevgeny Svetschnikow was born in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk in Sakhalin , but moved with his family first to Barnaul and later to Kazan , where he was active in the junior department of Ak Bars Kazan . At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he ran for Bars Kazan in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga (MHL), the highest junior league in the country, before he also made his first three appearances for Ak Bars Kazan in the continental during the 2013/14 season Hockey League (KHL) came. Previously, he was selected by the team in the 2013 KHL Junior Draft in second overall position. As a result, however, the winger moved to North America and joined the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles from the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ), for which he scored 78 scorer points in 55 games in his first year and consequently in the LHJMQ All- Rookie team was considered. The Russian also took part in the CHL Top Prospects Game before being considered 19th in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings .

The Red Wings equipped Svetschnikow with an entry-level contract in October 2015 , before he made his debut at the Grand Rapids Griffins in the American Hockey League (AHL), the farm team of the Red Wings, at the end of the 2015/16 season after another season in Cape Breton . The following year, the attacker won the AHL playoffs for the Calder Cup with the Griffins , while he made his debut for Detroit in the National Hockey League (NHL) in April 2017 . In the 2017/18 season Svetschnikow completed 14 games for Detroit, but was still mostly used in the AHL. He then missed the entire 2018/19 season due to a torn cruciate ligament .

International

Svetschnikow gained his first experience at international level during the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games , where he won the silver medal with the team as well as the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2013 . With the Russian U18 selection, the attacker took part in the U18 World Championships in 2013 and 2014 and in the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2013 , but missed the medal ranks in each case. He made his debut for the U20 national team at the U20 World Cup in 2016 , with the Sbornaja only losing to the hosts from Finland in the final and thus winning silver again.
