  • The Public Transport in Naples rail-bound transport covers and road, which the city Naples open up and their agglomeration. The network consists of two underground lines , four S-Bahn lines , eight narrow-gauge suburban railway lines, three tram lines , four funiculars , eight trolleybus lines , 179 bus lines , 40 school bus lines . 13 night bus routes operate at night .

    operator

Most of the means of transport are operated by the Azienda Napoletana Mobilità (ANM), which emerged in 2013 from the merger of Metronapoli , the former ANM and Napolipark . Metronapoli was the operator of the two underground lines and the funiculars, ANM operated the trams and bus routes, and Napolipark was the operator of the city's public car parks .

The S-Bahn and regional train lines are operated by Ente Autonomo Volturno (EAV) - a local electricity company that took over the previously independent railway companies Ferrovia Circumvesuviana , SEPSA and MetroCampania NordEst in early 2013.

The S-Bahn line 2 is operated by Trenitalia .

The lines of the individual modes of transport used their own tickets until the end of the 1990s under the direction of the city and regional administrations, the Unicocampania transport association was created and numerous renovation and expansion projects were started at the same time, with the aim of uniting all routes into one city network.

Public transport should be made more attractive by the creation of the Piano delle 100 stazioni "Plan of 100 stations", which provides for at least 100 underground and suburban railway stations in the urban area to transfer points for public transport at street level and / or to park -and-Ride -Stations designed, Another measure to increase the attractiveness are the Stazioni dell'arte " art stations", which have been equipped with modern works of art by internationally famous artists and architects.

    network

The city of Napoli adopted a first transport plan in 1997, which was followed by the Campania region's transport plan in 2000 . The plans contain a network of 8 numbered lines of rail-bound transport, which was expanded to include line 9 in 2000. In 2003 line 10 was proposed. These are the underground lines designated as lines 1 and 6, the standard-gauge S-Bahn line 2 operated by Trenitalia , the S-Bahn lines 3 and 4 of the former Ferrovia Circumvesuviana, the standard-gauge Ferrovia Circumflegrea , which operate on 950 mm gauge as S-Bahn line 5, as well as the planned standard-gauge S-Bahn lines 7 and 8. Line 9 is a planned underground light rail , line 10 is a planned subway line.

    Subway

    line 1

Line 1 is designed as a ring line , around half of which is in operation. Construction work began on the line, first known as Metropolitana collinare ("Hill Underground"), in 1986. The first 3.8 km long section 3.8 km between Vanvitelli and Colli Aminei went into operation on March 28, 1993. Further sections of the route followed in stages until the end of 2013 the Piscinola – Vanvitelli – Garibaldi section was in operation. The construction work was repeatedly delayed by archaeological finds. When the last section opened, the two stations Municipio and Duomo were still missing . The former opened in 2015, the latter is expected to follow in 2019. The Piscinola – Secondigliano section is to be completed in spring 2019, the rest of the section by Di Vittorio 2020. Garibaldi Airport is to follow by 2022.

Line 1 is known as the Metrò dell'Arte (German: "Art-U-Bahn"). The train stations Dante , Museo , Materdei , Salvator Rosa , Quattrogiornate and Rione Alto were designed by internationally renowned artists and thus form a kilometer-long, freely accessible gallery of modern art.

    Line 6

    Line 6

This line has been out of service since 2011 and is scheduled to go back into operation in 2019.

Line 6 runs in an east-west direction from Mostra to Mergellina . It was planned as a light rail with street sections for the soccer World Cup in 1990 , but only a short underground section was created, which was never put into operation due to lack of money.

After several years, the section was completed as a subway and opened in 2007, maintaining the character of a light rail. After the opening, 25 m long trains ran every 16 minutes from Monday to Friday. In 2011, operations on the line that was insignificant for traffic were discontinued. An extension towards the city center to the Municipio station of line 1 is under construction and should be completed in 2020. Unlike previously planned, this section of the route will be completely in the tunnel. It is planned to use 39 m trains in the future.

    Line 2

    Line 2,
    Montesanto train station

Line 2 crosses the city of Naples in an east-west direction from Pozzuoli to San Giovanni-Barra in the eastern part of the city.

This route is the old Metropolitana FS . Construction began in 1911, but was interrupted by the First World War, so that the line could not go into operation until September 20, 1925. It is the oldest city line in Italy.

In addition to line 2, three other S-Bahn lines without numbers use the route. They all start in Napoli Campi Flegrei, from where they go to Salerno , Capua and Castellammare di Stabia .

Since June 1, 2002, the Napoli Piazza Cavour station has been connected to the Museo station on underground line 1 by a pedestrian tunnel . Line 2 has been extended from Napoli Gianturco to San Giovanni-Barra since December 2014 .

    Suburban railways

Lines 3 and 4: Ferrovia Circumvesuviana

    Circumvesuviana,
    Porta Nolana train station

The Circumesuviana operated by the EAV is a well-developed railway network, which consists of several modern narrow-gauge railways and opens up the eastern conurbations around the Vesuvius . The network consists of three routes leading from Porta Nolana station to Baiano , Sarno and Poggiomarino / Sorrento . The three radial routes were connected to a Tangente Volla , opened in 2001San Giorgio a Cremanoconnected, which opens up the Ponticelli district with five underground train stations. In 2004, a connecting loop between Botteghelle and Madonnelle was opened so that trains from Porta Nolana can directly reach the new tangent without turning.

Line 3 leads from Porta Nolana first along the route to Baiano and changes at Botteghelle via the connecting loop to the tangent, where it goes intoSan Giorgio a Cremano end up. Line 4 runs from Porta Nolana along the route to Sarno and ends in Vesuvio de Meis , an intermediate station on the tangent.

    Line 5: Ferrovia Circumflegrea

    Circumflegrea,
    Torregaveta train station

The Ferrovia Circumflegrea operated by EAV was gradually opened as a single-track local railway between the 1960s and the 1990s. Both Montesanto , the exit station in Naples, and the western terminus at Torregaveta , are also used by Ferrovia Cumana.

Trains run from Montesanto to Licola every 20 minutes. Until 2011 it drove beyond Licola to Torregaveta, but the plan was thinned out considerably in 2011, so that the trains between Licola and Torregaveta only ran until around noon and shortly afterwards operations on the section were completely stopped. A tour around the Phlegraean Fields has not been possible since then. However, on Sundays and public holidays from July to September, individual Ferrovia Cumana trains run via Torregaveta on the circumflegrea route to Cuma.

    Ferrovia Cumana

    Cumana,
    Mostra train station

Ferrovia Cumana , operated by EAV, was opened as a single-track local railway in 1889. It connects the city center with the seaside resorts on the coast, especially Pozzuoli , and has therefore been used as a tourist train since it opened. The trains run every 20 minutes to Torregaveta, in the morning peaks there are 10 minutes between Bagnoli and Montesanto .

On Sundays and public holidays four express trains run from July to September on the route and from Torregaveta on to Cuma on the Ferrovia Circumflegrea route, which is otherwise out of service in this area.

    Linea Arcobaleno

    Mugnano train station

The Rainbow Line runs from Piscinola , the northern end point of Line 1, to Aversa north of Naples. The underground railway line goes back to the narrow-gauge Alifanabahn , which was closed in 1976 and was replaced by today's standard-gauge subway. The line opened to Mugnano in 2005 and to Aversa Centro in 2009. The operator was initially MetroCampania NordEst , which was taken over by EAV. The name Rainbow Line comes from the color coding of the individual train stations.

Electric multiple units of the series MA.100, which were previously used on Line A of the Rome Metro, operate on the route . The trains initially ran every 10 or 15 minutes. From July 2, 2013, the line was completely out of service for some time due to a lack of vehicles, even though the railway has eleven trains.

In 2018 the trains only ran every 15 minutes during rush hour and otherwise every 30 minutes. In regular traffic, one train is sufficient to cover the distance in 12 minutes; in rush hour traffic, a second train is used.

    tram

From the network opened in 1885 as a horse-drawn tram, which had more than 60 lines in 1930, three lines remain. Traffic has been suspended since July 2016 due to construction work in Via Marina. Actually, operations should have resumed in September 2017, but it was still inactive in September 2018. Operations are expected to resume in March 2019.

A tram route runs from the Stazione Marittima along the coast to San Giovanni-Barra. The other route leads from the coast inland past the train stations and continues in a north-easterly direction to Via Stradera . An extension from Stazione Marittima to the east to G. Bruno-Sannazzaro was planned.

In terms of vehicles, there are 22 AnsaldoBreda Sirio trams from 2004 and 15 trams from the 1930s in the depot.

    Funiculars

Map of the transport network in the city center. Next to the stations of the suburban railways, three of the four funiculars can be seen. The tram network has shrunk noticeably since 1998.

There are four funiculars in Naples that are part of the public transport network. Three of them connect the more affluent Vomero quarter, which is located on a hill, with the lower parts of the city:

    • Funicolare di Chiaia connects the Vantivelli station on metro line 1 with the Amedeo station on S-Bahn line 2 in the Chiaia district . The railway was opened in 1889 and has two intermediate stations. The two-car trains hold 300 people.
    • Funicolare di Montesanto connects the Morghen station near Castel Sant'Elmo with the Montesanto train station . The railway was opened in 1891 and also has two intermediate stations. The two-car trains hold 300 people.
    • Funicolare Centrale connects the Vantivelli station of metro line 1 with the Augusteo station . The name comes from the fact that this track is located between the other two tracks. It was only opened in 1928 and has an intermediate station. The three-car trains hold 450 people.

The fourth funicular is the Funicolare di Mergellina , which leads from Mergellina to Manzoni . It was opened in 1931, making it the youngest funicular in Naples. In contrast to the other funiculars in Naples, there are no trains on this railway, but two single wagons that hold 60 people and serve three intermediate stations in addition to the two end stations.

    trolleybus

ANM trolleybus on line 255 /, called 255-barrata in Italian , which was discontinued in 2014.

In Naples there are still four trolleybus lines that are left over from a network of almost 30 lines in the 1960s. These are lines 201, 202, 254 and M13. The M13 is one of the longest trolleybus routes in Europe. It leads from Porta Capuana to Teverola .

The trolleybus lines are operated by ANM and Compagnia Trasporti Pubblici Napoli (CTP).

    Planned lines

    Line 7

    Line 7 map

The underground line 7 is a ring line with a hairpin in the Montesanto station , which is supposed to serve the districts west of the center, in particular the university quarter. From Montesanto it should first use the Circumflegrea railway line to Socavo station, then lead an underground line through the university district and meet the Cumana at Edenlandia station , where it should return to Montesanto .

In addition, the Cilea station is to be built, which is to be connected by elevators to the Quattro Giornate station on underground line 1, which is 120 m higher . Edenlandia station is to be placed underground and renamed Kennedy .

In 2018, the northern section of the route through the university district was under construction. The Socavo – Monte Sant'Angelo section is due to open in March 2019, the section to Terracina by 2021.

    Line 8

The subway line 8 is intended to develop the Bagnoli district south of the Cumana, where the new Bagnoli Futura district is to be built on the site of the former Italsider ironworks . The company commissioned with the urban development project became insolvent in 2014.

The route of line 8 begins at Kennedy station , the replacement for today's Edenlandia station , and runs underground to Dazio . The route lies south of the Cumana, which is to be lifted and dismantled in this section. The aim is to remove the lane created by the Cumana between residential areas and the beach. The Dazio – Torregaveta section of the Cumana remains unchanged.

    Line 9

The underground tram line 9 is to connect the stations Museo and Colli Aminei on line 1 and thereby develop the districts north of the city center. The route overcomes a considerable difference in altitude over 3.6 km, so that the tunnel to be excavated by miners wanted to have inclines of up to 80 ‰, which is why it was initially considered to run the railway as a funicular .

    Line 10

The subway line 10 is to connect the city center with the airport and the Afragola station, which opened in 2017, on the high-speed line Rome – Naples . Afragola is served by the trains that do not end in Napoli Centrale but in Salerno. The first construction lot would be the line from Capodichino Di Vittorio-Casoria-Afragola, which would connect line 1 with the station on the Rome-Formia-Naples line. The costs for this section were estimated at EUR 305 million in 2012. The second construction lot would be Casoria-Afragola-Napoli-Afragola AV, which would create the connection to the train station on the high-speed line. The last and most expensive construction lot would be the extension of Capodichino Di Vittorio into the city center to the Museo .
