history
On April 2, 1968, the Storting decided to build an airport near Molde. The airport opened in 1972 and is operated by the local municipality. Due to high financial losses, the airport has been managed and operated by the Norwegian state since 1978. A new passenger terminal opened in the early 1990s. The airport received international status in 2005 and has since had a duty-free shop in the departure area. In 2006 the terminal area was expanded and additional aircraft parking spaces were created. At the same time, fire protection and security were increased at the airport, and in 2007 it was given its own company fire brigade. In summer 2008, the runway (originally 1601 m) was enlarged from 1980 m to 2200 m in length.
