The George Bush Intercontinental Airport is located near Houston in the US state of Texas and is the largest of the three airports near the city. He is a great hub of United Airlines .
Location and transport links
George Bush Intercontinental Airport is 25 kilometers north of downtown Houston. South of the airport begins a driveway to Hardy Toll Road, which runs west of the airport . The Interstate 69 and US Highway 59 running east of the airport on a common line.
The George Bush Intercontinental Airport is buses in the public transport involved, the route 102 of the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County connects him regularly to the city center.
history
The airport opened in 1969 as the Houston Intercontinental Airport . It was decided to build it because the city's then commercial airport, William P. Hobby Airport , could not grow any further. It was named in 1997 in honor of the former US President George Bush .
Airport facilities
Runways
There are five runways, three of which run parallel in an east-west direction. They can be operated at the same time and, thanks to the appropriate instrument landing systems, also allow operation in very poor visibility to the west . The remaining two tracks run parallel in a south-east and north-west direction.
Terminals
The airport has five terminals, labeled with the letters A to E. Terminals B, C and E are used exclusively by United Airlines. The other North American airlines share Terminal A, the international airlines Terminal D. Entry controls for international flights are carried out centrally in Terminal E.
Airlines and Destinations
The George Bush Intercontinental Airport is the largest hub of the airline United Airlines . It is used by a total of 27 airlines. The market share of United Airlines including United Express was 77.74 percent in 2018, followed by American Airlines including American Eagle with 5.44 percent, Spirit Airlines with 5.37 percent and Delta Air Lines including Delta Connection with 3.50 percent.
George Bush Intercontinental Airport has direct flights to 110 domestic and 67 international destinations. The international route network includes scheduled flights to Asia , Europe , North America , Oceania and South America . In the German-speaking area, Frankfurt am Main is served by Lufthansa and Munich by United Airlines.
