Francisco "Paco" Godia Sales (born March 21, 1921 in Barcelona ; † November 28, 1990 ibid), also called "Chico" Godia , was a Spanish automobile racing driver .

Career

Godia was a wealthy businessman who started motorsport in 1945. First he started in sports car races; As a private driver and partly as a member of the Maserati racing team, he competed in Formula 1 races in the 1950s . He made his first appearance at the 1951 Spanish Grand Prix , where he finished tenth, ten laps behind. His best season was the 1956 season , when he scored six points with two fourth places at the GPs in Germany and Italy and was ninth in the World Cup. After an accident at the French Grand Prix in the 1958 season, he ended his career.

Godia later became an art collector and founded a museum in Barcelona in which, in addition to reminiscences of his racing career, art objects can also be seen. Godia also helped build the Circuit de Catalunya , where the Spanish Grand Prix has been held since 1991 . Godia died in 1990 at the age of 69.
