Franconville is a French commune with 36,762 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Val-d'Oise department and is located in the northwestern outskirts of Paris . It is the fifth largest city in the department.
geography
Franconville is located 20 kilometers northwest of Paris in the Montmorency Valley at the foot of the Buttes du Parisis , a forested range of hills.
The neighboring communities of Franconville are Beauchamp and Taverny in the north-west, Le Plessis-Bouchard in the north, Ermont and Sannois in the east, Cormeilles-en-Parisis in the south and Montigny-lès-Cormeilles in the west.
Population development
Until the beginning of the 20th century, Franconville was a small town with fewer than 2000 inhabitants. Already in the first half of the 20th century, steady growth began, which by the beginning of the 1950s had the population almost quadrupled. From the 1950s to the beginning of the 1980s, the city grew rapidly to become a medium- sized town with over 30,000 residents in order to maintain this level since then.
