The Nordkurier is a regional daily newspaper . It is mainly distributed in East Mecklenburg, in the southern part of Western Pomerania and in the Uckermark district in northern Brandenburg . The traditional distribution area is largely identical to the borders of the former Neubrandenburg district of the GDR . The sold circulation is 62,516 copies, a decrease of 51.9 percent since 1998.

history

The Nordkurier emerged from the newspaper Freie Erde , the former organ of the Neubrandenburg district leadership of the Socialist Unity Party of Germany (SED). The Free Earth appeared from August 1952 to March 1990, first as an organ of the Neubrandenburg district leadership of the SED and from 1989 as a socialist daily newspaper in the Neubrandenburg district.

editor

The Nordkurier media group, which publishes the Nordkurier, each has a third share of the publisher of Kieler Nachrichten , Schwäbischer Verlag GmbH and Co. KG Drexler, Gessler and Presse-Druck- und Verlags-GmbH . The Nordkurier media group has its own logistics company that delivers the Nordkurier newspapers, letters and parcels.

The local edition appearing on Usedom is published under the different title Usedom Kurier . It is in direct competition with the Usedom-Peene-Zeitung , the local edition of the Ostsee-Zeitung that appears there . This situation arose from the district reform in 1994 through the amalgamation of the districts of Anklam (formerly the Neubrandenburg district, thus traditional newspaper Freie Erde ), Greifswald-Land and Wolgast (both formerly the Rostock district with the Ostseezeitung district organ ). In Brandenburg the local edition is called Uckermark Kurier .

After the upheaval in the GDR in 1989/1990, work continued in the old rooms. After the then finance minister Theo Waigel laid the foundation stone on September 30, 1992, the company, privatized by the Treuhandanstalt , moved in 1993/1994 to a newly built printing and publishing house on the Neubrandenburg Datzeberg .

Production and Services

From April 2009 to March 2013, the Nordkurier no longer produced its jacket part itself; it was supplied by mv: m Mantelredaktion GmbH based in Schwerin. Since April 2013, the Nordkurier has been creating its own coat again and has increased the editorial team by 14 to 120 employees. The background to the new concept was also the construction of a new printing center with a new printing press, which meant a changeover of the newspaper format from the Rhenish to the Berlin format. As a result, the layout of the cooperation partner Schweriner Volkszeitung was no longer so easy to adopt. In addition, “various editorial realignments have resulted in different journalistic demands than at the beginning of the cooperation,” said Schwerin.

The Nordkurier publishing house publishes eight issues of the weekly advertising courier with a total circulation of 321,000 copies per week.

Criminal proceedings because of the term bully-hunter

Nationwide reports were made about a case against a Nordkurier reporter who in June 2014 described a hunter who had dragged a dead deer on a rope behind his car across the street as a bully hunter . In May 2015, the journalist was sentenced to a fine of 1000 euros for insulting at the Pasewalk District Court ; the sentence was confirmed by the Neubrandenburg District Court in February 2016 , but lifted by the Rostock Higher Regional Court in September 2016 .
