Julius von Koethen

Friedrich Julius Franz Alexander Kreuzwendedich von Koethen (born July 17, 1815 in Zeinicke, Pyritz district , † June 12, 1899 in Halle (Saale) ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were the heir to Crampe, Zeinicke and Libbehne , Georg Ernst von Koethen (1763-1828) and his second wife Ernestine, née Richter (1770-1843).

Career

After attending grammar school in Stargard , Koethen joined the 32nd Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer on June 1, 1834 , and was promoted to second lieutenant until mid-March 1837 . On August 15, 1845 he was assigned to the 4th Combined Reserve Battalion for one year and from May to August 1848 for training on the Dreyse needle rifle at the Sömmerda rifle factory . From April 11 to June 3, 1849 he was with the mobile division in Schleswig and Holstein and during this time took part in the war against Denmark in the battles at Alminde , Viuf and Vejle .

After the war, from February 1851 to September 1856, Koethen was a company commander in the 1st Battalion in the 32nd Landwehr Regiment and was promoted to captain until mid-May 1854 . On April 1, 1857, he was appointed company commander in his main regiment. In the same capacity, he was transferred to Torgau on February 23, 1861 in the 4th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 72 . After his promotion to major , he was in command of the 2nd Battalion from June to November 1864 and then of the Fusilier Battalion. This was followed on June 2, 1865 as commander of the 1st battalion in the Brandenburg Fusilier Regiment No. 35 . Koethen led this association in 1866 in the war against Austria near Münchengrätz and Königgrätz and received the Crown Order III for his work . Class with swords.

After the war, Koethen was promoted to lieutenant colonel on December 31, 1866 with a patent from October 30, 1866 . With the mobilization on the occasion of the war against France he was given command of the King Grenadier Regiment (2nd West Prussian) No. 7 and a few days later became a colonel . He led his regiment near Weissenburg , Wörth , Stonne , Sedan , Petit Bicêtre , Bellevue , Meudon , Malmaison , Garches , on Mont Valerien and in front of Paris . Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , Koethen was appointed commander of Torgau one day before the peace treaty under position à la suite of his regiment . Koethen married on January 11, 1881 in Halle Hulda von Gößnitz (1847–1921), widow of Emil von Schrader († 1880). The marriage resulted in the daughter Anna-Marie (* 1883), who married the Chamberlain and Lord on Kobylnike Friedrich Wilhelm Freiherr von Wilamowitz-Möllendorf (* 1872) in 1903 .
