Fritz Louis von Bernuth (born December 15, 1819 in Münster , † October 6, 1906 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Fritz was the son of the Prussian Higher Regional Court President in Münster Karl von Bernuth (1774–1843) and his wife Luise, nee Freiin von der Recke (1787–1862) from the house of Uentrop . The later Prussian Minister of State and Justice August von Bernuth (1808–1889) was his older brother.

Military career

Bernuth visited the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin . He then joined the 8th Hussar Regiment of the Prussian Army on August 4, 1837 as a portepeef ensign and was promoted to second lieutenant in mid-April 1839 . In 1846/47 he was assigned to teach at the division school in Düsseldorf . In 1849 Bernuth took part in the skirmishes at Dons and Aarhuus during the war against Denmark . In the same year he became a regimental adjutant and was active as an adjutant of the 3rd Cavalry Division during the mobilization in 1850 . Bernuth was promoted to Rittmeister by mid-September . In 1855 he was appointed squadron leader in the tribe of the Landwehr battalion in Attendorn and the following year with the 8th Landwehr Hussar Regiment in Paderborn . With his transfer to the 5th Uhlan Regiment , Bernuth was commanded in mid-August 1857, initially as adjutant of the 8th Division , at the beginning of February 1859 of the 7th Division and in mid-March 1859 at the General Command of the IV Army Corps . From July 1860 to November 1861 he was then active as a squadron chief in the newly established Uhlan Regiment No. 11 . With promotion to major , he was then transferred to the General Staff and assigned to various divisional headquarters. In the 11th Division , Bernuth made the transition to Alsen in 1864 during the war against Denmark . There he met Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia , who requested him as a personal adjutant after the war.

In this position Bernuth took part in the battles near Liebenau , Münchengrätz and Königgrätz in 1866 during the war against Austria . For his behavior with the Order of the Crown III. Awarded swords in the class, he advanced to lieutenant colonel and was appointed commander of Hussar Regiment No. 14 on October 30, 1866 . In this capacity Bernuth rose to colonel in early July 1869 and led his regiment in 1870/71 during the war against France in the battles of Weißenburg , Wörth and Sedan , as well as the bombardment of Pfalzburg and the siege of Paris . Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class joined on 23 November 1871 position à la suite of the Army use as Chief of Staff of III. Army inspection on.
