Ernst Gebhard Carl Günther Graf von der Schulenburg-Wolfsburg (born December 18, 1819 in Braunschweig , † February 21, 1895 in Wolfsburg ) was a German landowner and politician.

family

Günther von der Schulenburg came from the white line of the widely branched noble family von der Schulenburg . He was the eldest son of the Wolfsburg landowner Werner Graf von der Schulenburg (1792–1861) and his wife Charlotte, b. Baroness von Vincke (1797–1888).

Günther von der Schulenburg married his first marriage on June 5, 1856 in Emden, a distant cousin Adelheid Countess von der Schulenburg-Emden (born February 13, 1834 in Emden; † July 7, 1870 in Wolfsburg), with whom he had seven children. After her death on the day of the birth of their seventh child, he married her sister Margarethe Adelheid Countess von der Schulenburg-Emden in Potsdam on May 9, 1873 (* May 24, 1839 in Emden; † May 26, 1906 in Wolfsburg), this marriage remained childless. Both were daughters of the manor house member Eduard Graf von der Schulenburg-Emden (1839-1906).

Life

Schulenburg studied until 1846 Jura , 1848 Forestry , in Heidelberg and Berlin. In 1841 he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia Heidelberg . After completing his studies, he began a legal career as an auscultator at the Halberstadt Regional Court. He later left the civil service and from 1860 devoted himself to the administration of his inherited estates in Wolfsburg, Steimke , Rohrberg , Meßdorf , Rothehof , Brome , Bisdorf , Boldeckerland, Diederichsburg. The Schillermühle, a water mill that has existed on the Großer Schillerteich since around 1600 , was expanded by a sawmill in 1863 . His mother's castle, Oefte Castle near Essen, was also managed and redesigned by him.

From 1869 to 1873 Schulenburg sat as a member of the constituency Magdeburg 1 (Salzwedel, Gardelegen) in the Prussian House of Representatives . He belonged to the faction of the Conservative Party . In 1884, as a representative of the von der Schulenburg family, he became a member of the Prussian manor house , to which he belonged until his death. In 1885 he bought Rethmar Castle for his younger son . He was hereditary chef in the Kurmark Brandenburg. His tomb in the Rothenfelde cemetery has been preserved to this day.
