Gaoming ( Chinese 高明 区 , Pinyin Gāomíng Qū ) is a municipality in the city of Foshan in the southern Chinese province of Guangdong .
On December 8, 2002, the Gaoming (高明 市) county was dissolved and made a Foshan District.
geography
The Gaoming district is located on the eastern branches of the West River , which merges into the Pearl River a little below - near Guangzhou .
The surface shape of the Gaoming Borough is flat in the eastern and northeastern parts, while the western and southwestern parts are hilly. The west river touches the city district in the east. The climate is subtropical to tropical ; the average January temperature is 12 ° C, the average July temperature around 27 ° C. The annual rainfall is around 1700 mm.

economy
The district's GDP is around 24,800 RMB annually (as of 2002), which is well above the provincial average of 15,600 RMB.
Gaoming has resources of coal , limestone , granite , monazite , marl , kaolin , gold , copper , zinc , manganese , iron , lead , tungsten and more. Mining is one of the most important industries in Gaoming; when mining marl, Gaoming is one of the most important regions in Guangdong.
Within Guangdong, Gaoming Municipality is an important food producer. In addition to rice , peanuts , cassava roots, tea , sugar cane , fruits and vegetables are grown.
The food, textile and building material production as well as the printing trade are of great importance for the industry in the city district. Important products are cement , clothing, printed fabrics and printed products made of paper, plastic and foil products, and starch .

The Gaoming Ward is part of the prefecture-level city of Foshan . Gaoming is bordered to the north by the urban district of Gaoyao (part of the district-free city of Zhaoqing ), to the east by the districts of Sanshui and Nanhai (both Foshan city), to the south by the independent city of Heshan (part of the district-free city of Jiangmen ) and to the west by the Xinxing County ( Yunfu Prefecture ).
The city district is divided into a street district and three large municipalities:
- Hecheng Street District (荷 城 街道), 178.58 km²;

On May 27, 2005 the administrative structure of the city district was reformed:

- Dissolution of the large community Fuwan (富 湾镇), incorporation into the street district Hecheng;
- Dissolution of the large parishes of Yangmei (杨梅 镇) and Renhe (人和 镇), merging into the large community of Yanghe;
- Dissolution of the large communities of Heshui (合 水镇) and Genglou (更 楼镇), merging to form the large community of Genghe (omitting a Genglou village committee);
- Founding of the large community of Mingcheng from parts of the former street district Xi'an and the remaining village committee of Genglou.
traffic
Gaoming is not particularly well connected in terms of traffic. The railway line from Guangzhou west to Maoming as well as the Guangzhou- Foshan - Kaiping -autobahn run north of the city district area. The bridge that crosses the West River in Gaoming and connects the district to the transport network of the greater Guangzhou area is important. The port on the west river is of great importance, on which goods such as people can be transported in a north-south direction and from where there are direct connections to Hong Kong and Macau .
