Geisa Aparecida Muniz Coutinho (born June 1, 1980 in Araruama ) is a Brazilian sprinter who specializes in the 400-meter run .

Athletic career

Geisa Aparecida Coutinho gained her first experience in international championships at the Ibero-American Championships in Guatemala City in 2002 , where she won the gold medal with the Brazilian 4 x 400 meter relay. In 2003 she qualified for participation in the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham , where she was eliminated in the first round. At the South American Championships in Barquisimeto , Venezuela , she was continental champion over 400 meters and with the Brazilian relay. She also took part in the Pan American Games in Santo Domingo , where she won the bronze medal with the relay. In the individual competition, she was eliminated in the preliminary round. She also qualified for the World Championships in Paris , where she also did not get past the first round. In 2004 she won the bronze medal at the Ibero-American Championships in Huelva over 400 meters and also qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens . There she was eliminated both in the individual competition and with the relay in advance.

In 2005 she won the silver medal over 400 meters at the South American Championships in Cali and gold with the Brazilian relay. At the World Championships in Helsinki , she was disqualified with the relay in the finals after the relay had previously set a new continental record. In 2006 she took seventh place over 200 meters and fourth place on her parade route at the Ibero-American Championships in Ponce on Puerto Rico . In 2009 she won the gold medal again with the Brazilian relay at the South American Championships in Lima . She also won the season at the Jogos da Lusofonia in Lisbon and was eliminated from the World Championships in Berlin with this season in advance.

In 2011 she won the 400 meter bronze medal at the South American Championships in Buenos Aires and won the relay again. She then won gold over 400 meters at the World Military Games in Rio de Janeiro , with the 4-by-100-meter relay and the 4-by-400-meter relay. At the World Championships in Daegu , she reached the semi-finals over 400 meters and was eliminated with the 4 x 100 meter relay in the preliminary run. At the Pan American Games in Guadalajara , Mexico , she won silver in the relay and bronze in the individual competition. In 2012 she qualified again for the World Indoor Championships in Istanbul , but was disqualified there in the first round. At the Ibero-American Championships in Barquisimeto , she finished eighth over 200 meters, won silver over 400 meters and gold in both sprint relays. In 2014 she won the 400 meter and relay at the South American Games in Santiago de Chile . She also won gold in these two disciplines at the Ibero-American Championships in São Paulo . In 2015 she again took part in the South American Championships in Lima and qualified for the final over 200 meters, but did not take part there. She won the title again over 400 meters. So she qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated in the preliminary round. In 2016 she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for the third time and failed again in the individual as well as the relay in the run-up. In 2017 she won the B-final with the Brazilian team at the IAAF World Relays 2017 in the Bahamas . At the South American Championships in Luque , she again won the double over 400 meters and with the relay.
