Georg Lacher

Georg Lacher (born April 20, 1809 in Reisensburg , † December 7, 1882 in Munich ) was a history and church painter of the Nazarene style , who was mainly active in Old Bavaria and in Bavarian Swabia . From 1824 to 1882 he created ceiling paintings and altarpieces in numerous churches.

Life

Georg Lacher was born in Reisensburg, today a district of Günzburg. He first studied at the Augsburg Art School and from 1828 at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich , where he enrolled in the subject of "History Painting". Peter von Cornelius , the then director of the academy, was one of his teachers. With him Georg Lacher was involved in the painting of the Ludwigskirche in Munich, where in 1836 he executed the fresco of the four Latin church fathers in the south transept with Ludwig Moralt .

Georg Lacher was a member of the Munich Association for Christian Art, founded in 1860 . A street in Günzburg is named after him.
