Georg Lorenz von Kowalski

Georg Lorenz Simon von Kowalski (born July 30, 1717 in Elsenau, † November 18, 1796 in Berlin ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and chief of garrison regiment No. 7 .

Life

origin

His parents were Joachim von Kowalski (* bei Ofen ; † 1732) and his wife Anna Maria, born von Kleist from the Schmenzin family. She was the sister of Lieutenant General Andreas Joachim von Kleist .

Military career

In 1735, Kowalski was initially a corporal in the infantry regiment "von Botzheim" of the Prussian Army . There he became an ensign on March 10, 1739 . In the First Silesian War he took part in the battles at Mollwitz and Chotusitz . In the meantime he became second lieutenant on August 5, 1741 with a patent from August 7, 1741. In the subsequent Second Silesian War , Kowalski fought in the siege of Prague as well as in the battle of Hohenfriedberg , where he was wounded, and in the battle near Katholisch-Hennersdorf . During this time he became Prime Lieutenant on May 31, 1745 . Between the wars he was promoted to captain of staff on October 20, 1747 and on June 14, 1752 in a parade to captain and appointed company commander.

During the Seven Years' War he took part in the battles of Lobositz , Prague , Breslau , Leuthen , Zorndorf , Kay , Torgau and Freiberg . For Torgau, Kowalski received the order Pour le Mérite . He also fought in the siege of Anklam and in the capture of the Peenemünde entrenchments. At that time he was major on March 19, 1757 , on April 16, 1762 lieutenant colonel and on November 19, 1762 commander of the infantry regiment "von Braunschweig-Bevern". On May 23, 1767 he became colonel and on February 2, 1771 chief of garrison regiment No. 7. By May 20, 1787, Kowalski finally rose to lieutenant general. On May 6, 1788, he received his resignation because the regiment was disbanded.

He died on November 18, 1796 in Berlin and was buried on November 21, 1796 in the garrison cemetery.

Kowalski was considered a notorious officer. Lieutenants and other officers who stood out were transferred to his garrison regiment.

He married Anna Elisabeth von Unruh on February 21, 1753 at Gut Steinwitz near Landsberg (* September 18, 1729; † April 2, 1799). She was a daughter of Lieutenant Colonel von Unruh. The couple had several children including:
