Georg Richter (politician, 1853)

Georg Richter (born May 14, 1853 in Frankfurt (Oder) ; † June 14, 1925 ibid) was a German administrative lawyer and municipal official.

Life

As the son of a jeweler and goldsmith, Richter attended Frankfurt's Friedrichsgymnasium. After graduating from high school, he studied law at Friedrichs University . In 1872 he became active in the Corps Normannia-Halle . As an inactive , he moved to the University of Leipzig , the Royal University of Greifswald and the University of Jena .

From 1882 he was a paid city ​​councilor in his hometown. In 1891 he went to Hirschberg as Lord Mayor . In Hirschberg he was a member of the Masonic lodge at the hot spring . There he was confirmed in office in 1902; but after his election as Lord Mayor of Frankfurt he went back and was introduced to the office of the city on October 1, 1903. He took up his second term on February 2, 1915. Qua office he sat in the "OB parliamentary group" of the Prussian manor house . During his tenure, a city library (opened in 1906), a secondary school (inaugurated in 1911, today Karl-Liebknecht-Gymnasium) and Hohenzollernplatz (today Platz der Einheit) were built. The south and north gables of the town hall were also restored and an extension was built. Furthermore, a memorial for the poet Heinrich von Kleist was erected in 1910 . On February 1, 1917 Richter resigned from office due to health problems.

Richter was buried in the hereditary funeral in the old cemetery in Frankfurt. One son was the future lieutenant general Wilhelm Richter (1892–1971).
