It was founded on April 19, 2012 and two months later united ten parties and civil movements. The goal of the electoral alliance was to replace the government of Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili in the parliamentary elections on October 1, 2012, which was finally achieved. There is no political program. Its members include free-market and pro-Western liberals, radical nationalists with xenophobic rhetoric, and politicians from the environment of the former President Eduard Shevardnadze , who lost their office and influence after the Rose Revolution in Georgia.

The initiator of the party alliance and its most influential personality was the entrepreneur Bidzina Ivanishvili . The founding chairman, however, was the lawyer Manana Kobachidze. She took over the office on an interim basis because Ivanishvili did not yet have Georgian citizenship in April 2012. Various prominent Georgians also joined the alliance, including former human rights ombudsman Sosar Subari, soccer player Kacha Kaladze , Georgian chess master Zurab Asmaiparashvili , journalist Guram Odisharia, Georgia's former UN ambassador Irakli Alassania and Georgia's former foreign minister Tedo Japarid .
