Gerhard Lessky

Gerhard Lessky (born May 17, 1969 in Schärding ) is an Austrian conductor .

Life

As the son of Rudolf Lessky and nephew of Friedrich Lessky , Gerhard Lessky became familiar with music from an early age. He began his musical studies with Balduin Sulzer and continued them in the subjects violin , piano and conducting at the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz . He received his diploma with "distinction". This was followed by in-depth conductor training as part of master classes with Peter Gülke , Sir John Eliot Gardiner and Nikolaus Harnoncourt , in which he also took part in interpretation seminars.

Lessky's collaboration with various orchestras such as the Bruckner Orchester Linz , the Sinfonietta Baden , the Wiener Concert-Verein , the Slovak Philharmonic , the Brno Philharmonic and international orchestras have taken him to concerts in Austria, Sweden, Germany, the Czech Republic as well as Latin America and South Korea and china. He has performed in renowned concert halls such as the Golden Hall of the Wiener Musikverein , the Brucknerhaus Linz, the Tonhalle Zurich and the Seoul Arts Center .

He founded the “Summer Opera Schärding” festival, in the framework of which unknown or rarely performed works of opera literature are performed. In 1996 he received a Bayreuth scholarship from the Richard Wagner Association in Linz. From 1994 to 2008 Lessky was artistic director of the “Junge Oper Oberösterreich” and from 1998 to 2000 assistant to the artistic director of the Vienna court orchestra . From 2000 to 2003 he was artistic director and chief conductor of the symphony orchestras at the College of Music at Mokwon University Daejeon in South Korea.

He has given concerts as part of the European Concert Summer Aspach , the Autumn Festival Blindenmarkt , the Festival European Weeks Passau , in the Brucknerhaus Linz, at the Stadttheater Steyr , at the Stadttheater Berndorf and directed an opera production as part of the Upper Austrian-Bavarian State Exhibition .

Lessky completed a stay in Tehran in 2018 as part of the Artist in Residence program .

His repertoire ranges from baroque operas to works of contemporary music. He has worked with international soloists and has been involved in radio productions.
