The Gmina Wolsztyn [ ˈvɔlʃtɨn ] is an urban-and-rural municipality in the powiat Wolsztyński of the Greater Poland Voivodeship in Poland . The seat of the Powiat and the municipality is the city of the same name ( German Wollstein ) with around 13,100 inhabitants.
geography
The municipality is located about 70 kilometers southwest of Poznan in the west of the voivodeship, where it borders on the Lubusz voivodeship . Neighboring municipalities are Siedlec in the north, Rakoniewice in the east and Przemęt in the southeast; in the Lubusz Voivodeship the municipalities of Sława in the southwest and Kolsko and Kargowa in the west.
The municipality is rich in smaller lakes. These include the Jezioro Berzyńskie (Berzyn Lake) in the south and the Jezioro Wolsztyńskie (Wollstein Lake) in the north of the city of Wolsztyn. The rivers include the Obra in the south of the municipality and its tributary Doyca in the north.
history
The present municipality was part of the Zielona Góra Voivodeship from 1975 to 1998 . During this time the powiat was dissolved. The rural community of Wolsztyn was converted into several gromadas in 1954 and newly created on January 1, 1973. The city of Wolsztyn and the rural community were merged in 1990/1991 to form an urban and rural community. This has belonged to the Greater Poland Voivodeship since 1999.
Sister cities and municipalities
The city-and-country community entered into several city and community partnerships between 1993 and 2016 . In addition, there has been a long-term partnership between the Robert Koch Museum in Wolsztyn and the Wollstein home district in Bad Bevensen . In addition to funding the museum, memorial plaques were set up on the 13 former German cemeteries in the community between 2000 and 2003.

- Lothar Bretterbauer (* 1953), Mayor of the twin town Lübben, was made an honorary citizen of the municipality in 2003 on the tenth anniversary of the town twinning.
