Godehard Schramm

Godehard Schramm (born December 24, 1943 in Konstanz ) is a German writer and storyteller .

Life and work

Schramm spent his childhood from 1948 in Thalmässing in Central Franconia . His father was an elementary school teacher. After studying Slavic Studies in Erlangen and Moscow , he edited the literary magazine UmDruck together with Gerd Scherm in the 1970s . Since 1976 he has been a member of the PEN Center Germany . In 1977 and 1983 he took part in the Ingeborg Bachmann Competition in Klagenfurt .

The central theme of his texts is the Franconian homeland in Europe . For him “home” can mean: a place of remembrance of security and closeness as well as disappointment and sadness; Space for encounters with people, their experiences, ways of life and social problems, and also space for the search for transcendence . Passages in Franconian and Alemannic dialect are just as characteristic of his texts as the examination of Christian themes and symbols and the diverse everyday culture in European regions, such as Italy , France , Holland , Poland and the Ukraine . He is almost always interested in the four tones of people, beliefs, culture and landscape.

In his 2016 work WeitLandWeit - GroßstadtlosGroß , he describes his homeland in a portrait of the Neustadt adAisch-Bad Windsheim district . Schramm was seriously criticized for the representation of the refugee reception since the end of 2015. He described the migration as an "invasion" and the people as "asylum blackmailers". In response to the criticism, Schramm appealed to freedom of expression and stated that he had chosen the words and formulations "with care". The SPD district parliamentary group in Middle Franconia asked whether there was a possibility of revoking the Wolfram von Eschenbach Prize awarded by the Middle Franconia district. The district administrator of the Neustadt Aisch district, Helmut Weiß, who had sponsored the publication of the book, distanced himself from the relevant sections and intended to have the reference to his support be removed in the event that the book was reprinted.

Godehard Schramm lives as a freelance writer in Nuremberg and Emskirchen- Neidhardswinden .
