Guaca is a municipality (municipio) in the department of Santander in Colombia .

The municipality of Guaca is located in the province of García Rovira in eastern Santander in the Colombian Andes at an altitude of about 2400 meters and has an average annual temperature of 14 ° C. Guaca is located 87 kilometers from Bucaramanga . The municipality borders in the north Santa Bárbara and the Departamento de Norte de Santander , in the east Cerrito and San Andrés , in the south San Andrés and Cepitá and in the west Santa Bárbara and Piedecuesta .

history

In the area of today Guaca lived before the arrival of the Spaniards indigenous people of the Guanes . The word guaca is of indigenous origin and means "at the foot of the mountain". The place Guaca was founded in 1553 by Ortún Velásquez de Velasco.
