Coromoro is a municipality (municipio) in the department of Santander in Colombia .

geography

The municipality of Coromoro is located in the province of Guanentá in southeastern Santander in the Colombian Andes at an altitude of about 1500 meters and has an average annual temperature of 21 ° C. Coromoro is 148 kilometers from Bucaramanga . The municipality is bordered by Mogotes and San Joaquín in the north, Onzaga in the east, Belén in the Department de Boyacá and Encino in the south and Charalá in the west .

history

In the area of today Coromoro lived before the arrival of the Spaniards indigenous people of the Guanes . The word Coromoro is of indigenous origin and means "bath of the gods". The place was founded in 1729 by Guillermo Díaz. In 1932 Coromoro received the status of a municipality.

economy

The main industry in Coromoro is agriculture . Mainly coffee , sugar cane , corn , cassava , bananas and citrus fruits are grown. There is also livestock farming and the production of milk products and honey .
