Gubkinski ( Russian Губкинский ) is a city in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug ( Russia ) with 23,335 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The city is located in the northern part of the West Siberian lowlands , about 510 km southeast of the capital of the Salekhard Autonomous Okrug , on the Pjakupur River , the left source of the Pur .

The city of Gubkinski forms an independent urban district and is also the administrative center of the surrounding Rajons .

The Purpe station is located 16 kilometers from the city on the Tyumen - Surgut - Novy Urengoy railway line (opened until Purpe in 1984, continued in 1985).

history

Gubkinski was officially founded on April 22, 1986 as an urban-type settlement and named after the Soviet geologist Ivan Gubkin . In 1996 the place received city rights.

Gubkinsky is the center of the oil - and gas production and processing through to Rosneft owned Rosneft Purpeneftegas and Nojabrskgasdobytscha and Purgas .
