Tasowski ( Russian Та́зовский ) is a settlement in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug ( Russia ) with 6,793 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The settlement is located in the northern part of the West Siberian lowlands about 540 km as the crow flies east of the republic capital Salekhard and 180 km north-northeast of the city ​​of Novy Urengoy . It is located on the left bank of the extreme left main arm of the river Tas , which forms a 15 km wide delta there , about 10 km above its mouth in the Tasbusen .

Tasowski is the administrative center of the Tasowski Rajons of the same name .

history

The place was in 1883 as a trading post for trade with the nomadic living Nenets established population. The Nenetian name Chalmer-Sede , later in Russian officially also Chalmer-Sed, which the place initially bore, stands for Hill of the Dead , as there was previously a Nenetian cemetery nearby. In 1949 he was given the name Tazovskoye , the Russian adjective form of the river name Taz .

From the 1960s onwards, the place became the basis for developing the north-eastern part of the region for the oil and gas industry . In 1964 the status of an urban-type settlement was given under its current name, and Tasowski has been a rural settlement since 2012.

Culture and sights

The Rajon Museum of Local History has existed in Tasowski since 1993 (since 2005 in a new building), which is mainly dedicated to the Nenets culture and shows everyday objects and handicrafts. On another issue is the beginning of the Russian development of this part of Siberia in the 17th century with 200 km tasaufwärts town of Mangaseya .

There is a local television station in Tasowski; the Rajon newspaper Sowetskoje Sapoljarje ('Soviet Transpolar Area') appears.

Economy and Infrastructure

Tasowski is the logistic center for the development and exploitation of the oil, natural gas and gas condensate deposits in the northeastern part of the Autonomous Okrug, on the Tas Peninsula and the Gydan Peninsula , in particular through Gazprom and Lukoil . In addition, there is fishing and reindeer herding in the surrounding area, mainly by the Nenets population.

There is an airport for regional traffic to the northwest of the town ( ICAO code USDT ). There is no year-round access to the Russian road network, there are roads to the natural gas reservoirs in the area. In the frosty season, Tasovsky can be reached from Urengoy , which is also the closest train station, Korottschajewo .
