Jar-Sale ( Russian Яр-Сале́ ) is a village (selo) in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrug in Russia with 6,486 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010).

geography

The place is about 200 km as the crow flies east of the district administrative center Salekhard at the southern end of the Yamal Peninsula , northeast of the Urals and roughly north of the Arctic Circle . It is located on the Ob -arm Malaja Jumba, about 5 km away from the left bank of the large left-hand Ob-estuary Chamamelskaya Ob, about 40 km above its confluence with the Obbusen .

Yar-Sale is the administrative center of the Rajons Jamalski and seat of the rural community jar Salinskoje selskoje posselenije, also the 20 km east-northeast location, mainly from to the Nenets belongs inhabited settlement Sjunai sale.

history

The village was founded in 1927. The name of Nenet origin means "sand cape ". In 1932 it became the administrative seat of the Yamalski rajon founded on December 10, 1930.

In the last few decades the population has grown rapidly in connection with the development of the region's natural gas reserves .

Jar-Sale is not connected to the road network that is open all year round. A winter track runs past the village, starting from Labytnangi , where the nearest train station is about 200 km away, partly on the ice of the Ob or its tributaries and further along the southeast coast of the Yamal Peninsula to about 130 km northeast of Nowy Port located in Jar-Sale follows.
