Hans Bernhard Graf von Schweinitz and Krain, Baron von Kauder (born July 3, 1926 in Liegnitz , Lower Silesia Province ; † July 16, 2008 in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler ) was a German ministerial official , politician and writer .

Graf Schweinitz came from the Silesian noble family von Schweinitz and grew up in Liegnitz. After basic training by private tutors, he attended the Knights' Academy in Liegnitz from 1936 and the secondary schools in Liegnitz and Wohlau from 1938 . The draft for the war emergency service took place in 1943, in the following year the employment in the Wehrmacht and thus the participation in the Second World War . After his release from American captivity in 1946, he was able to take the Abitur in Korntal . In 1947 he began studying new history , constitutional law and political science in Tübingen and was able to complete this in 1953 with a doctorate under Hans Rothfels .

In 1982 he married Hedwig Hörsch from Ahrweiler.

Graf von Schweinitz died on July 16, 2008 and was buried in the Ahrtor cemetery in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler.

Professional Activities

Graf Schweinitz began his professional activity in 1953 at what was then the Federal Office for Foreign Trade Information in Cologne . There he became head of the EEC division in 1957. From 1959 to 1978 he worked at the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government in Bonn . He was the personal speaker and speechwriter for the Federal Chancellors Konrad Adenauer , Ludwig Erhard and Kurt Georg Kiesinger . In 1963 he was responsible for organizing the press when US President John F. Kennedy visited Germany . Graf von Schweinitz was the founder of the regular MPs visits by citizens from the respective constituencies (at that time "Bonn trips"). He designed u. a. Ludwig Erhard's farewell speech to the Bundestag or the Chancellor's Christmas speech in 1968.

From 1978 to 1991 he worked in the Federal Ministry of Defense , where he was head of the Bundeswehr recruiting department in the information and press staff . Under his leadership u. a. the slogan A strong force developed. In addition, he was responsible for the Bundeswehr's BigBand .

After his retirement in 1993 he worked for an advertising agency in Wesseling for several years .

Graf von Schweinitz was also active extensively as an author. Publications can be found at WDR and Heilbronner Voice . In the 1960s he wrote a weekly column for the Inter Nationes Materndienst .

Garf Schweinitz had been a member of the CDU since 1972. For the federal election in 1976 he applied as a direct candidate in the federal constituency Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis . After being nominated by his local association in Cologne- Porz, however, he was defeated by Franz Heinrich Krey, who later became a member of the Bundestag . Count Schweinitz, who was described as a liberal Christian , saw a deficit in the CDU compared to the liberal element.

In 1975 Schweinitz was elected to the board of the CDU Porz as deputy chairman.
