Friedrich Hebbel Prize
The Friedrich Hebbel Prize is a prize awarded by the Friedrich Hebbel Foundation , most recently every two years, on March 18 , the birthday of the poet Friedrich Hebbel (1813–1863). It is endowed with 5,000 euros (as of 2018) and is intended to honor “artists living in northern Germany whose achievements go beyond the average”.
The prize was first awarded in 1913. No Hebbel Prize winners were honored from 1922 to 1953. With a few exceptions, the prize has been awarded regularly since 1954. In 1975, “ Prof. W. Petersen ” was awarded to a painter deeply involved in National Socialist propaganda .
