Heeßel is a district of Burgdorf in the Hanover region in Lower Saxony ( Germany ). The district, which has about 1000 inhabitants, is located on the former B 188 (now K 112), about 2 km west of the Burgdorf town center and 3 km east of Beinhorn .

geography

Geographical location

Until the Burgdorf bypass road (new B 188 ) was opened in October 2009, Heeßel was on the former B 188 (now K 112). The road section leading through Heeßel is part of the Lower Saxony Asparagus Road , which also runs through Burgdorf, among other things. The place stretches for about a kilometer along this street, which bears the name Dorfstraße and turns into Marktstraße in the direction of Burgdorf. The place measures between 200 and 500 meters in width. It is surrounded by large agricultural areas, with the town of Burgdorf in the east and some forest areas in the south.

Local division

The district of Heeßel can be divided into three roughly equal parts, which are all connected by the Dorfstrasse:

  • Kleinheeßel is a few hundred meters west of the rest of Heeßel. In addition to the club grounds of the Heesseler SV, it also includes the cemetery and some residential buildings. The bus stop "Heeßel / Kolshorner Weg" is centrally located. In addition to a cemetery chapel, there is also a memorial to commemorate the dead of the two world wars.
  • The largest part of the place (Westheeßel) includes not only numerous houses but also some farms. In the center of the village, the Burgweg branches off from Dorfstraße to the site of the former Heeßel Castle . At the junction there is also a coffee roastery and the bus stop "Heeßel / Heisterkampsweg"
  • The building of the Heeßel volunteer fire brigade is located in Ostheeßel, which is adjacent to Burgdorf Weststadt . Two petrol stations are located about 150 m further east. There are also some houses and farms here.

The Heeßel district also includes the following residential areas:

  • The area south of the street "An der Mösch" and west of the railway line, in which the tennis courts are also located,
  • the Ahrbeck between the B 443 and the railway line .

The Heeßel administrative area also includes large agricultural areas that are themselves many times the size of the actual town.

Large parts of what is now Burgdorfer Weststadt were built on parcels that used to belong to Heeßel. However, the residents of these building areas are not counted among the residents of Heeßel.

The construction of the "Zilleweg" building area almost led to a merger of Heeßel with Burgdorf. In the following years this was avoided by urban planning for the following building areas in order to preserve the village character of Heessel.

history

In 983 the great Saxons met at Castle Heeßel after Thietmar von Merseburg after the dispute with Heinrich the brawler . In 990, important personalities of the Saxons met here again to determine the boundaries of the dioceses of Minden (Enger) and Hildesheim (Ostfalen). According to the current state of research, the place was first mentioned in a document in 1360 in the Lüneburg feudal register of the dukes Otto and Wilhelm von Lüneburg .

In 1660 there were already 14 half-farmers in the village. The so-called Kötner and Brinkitzer positions were not added until the 18th century . Around 1800 Heeßel had around 150 inhabitants. The town experienced a population surge after the end of the Second World War in 1945, when the population doubled due to the influx of displaced persons . Most of the buildings on the Heisterkampsweg and Moormühlenweg streets date from this period. Heeßel then developed away from a pure street village with the buildings in the 1970s and early 1980s.

On March 1, 1974, Heeßel was incorporated into the city of Burgdorf as part of the administrative and territorial reform and thus lost its independence.

The residential area "Am Eikhoop" was built in the early 1990s as the last extension of the village of Heessel.

Coat of arms of Heeßel
Blazon : "On a silver crenellated wall , topped with three green firs on green floor , in green a growing , golden lion ."
Justification of the coat of arms: The lion indicates the free jurisdiction that the municipality of Heeßel once had together with the municipalities of Wettmar , Thönse , Engensen , Otze , Weferlingsen , Beinhorn , Kolshorn and Ramlingen-Ehlershausen . The silver pinnacle wall is intended to remind of the old castle that was once in the Heeßel firs.
