Heinz Klinkhammer (Manager)

Heinz Klinkhammer (* 1946 ) is a German lawyer and former industrial manager.

Career

Klinkhammer studied law , gained his first professional experience at the Institute for German and European labor law in Berlin and received his doctorate in 1977 at the University of Berlin to the doctor of law .

Before he took on various leading positions in the Ministry of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia (MAGS NRW) from 1979 to 1990 , most recently as head of the central department, Klinkhammer was a judge at the labor courts in Oberhausen and Krefeld for a short time . Then he was Labor Director of Hüttenwerke Krupp Mannesmann until 1992 and switched to the same position on the board of the Mannesmannröhren-Werke , to which he was a member until 1996 and where he was responsible for human resources and social affairs.

In February 1996, the Deutsche Telekom Supervisory Board appointed him to the Executive Board as responsible for human resources . Rolf-Dieter Leister , chairman of the supervisory board from 1989 to 1996, described Klinkhammer's tasks as one of the "most fascinating [...] in human resources" that can be assigned in Germany. He should cut 50,000 jobs as socially acceptable as possible, bring about "a cultural change" and promote the further qualification of an authority into a listed company. According to media reports, Klinkhammer's membership in IG Metall and the SPD meant that he was "pushed through" by the then chairman of the postal union .

On Klinkhammer's initiative, the in-house employment office “Vivento” (initially “Personal-Service-Agentur” [PSA]) was founded to enable the planned job cuts (originally 54,000 jobs in Germany and abroad) at Telekom. In total, he cut 120,000 jobs during his time, while 50,000 new jobs were created on the other side. Since he is said to have managed without redundancies , he enjoyed great respect from unions.

The department “corporate security ” also fell into its sub-area, which Wirtschaftswoche (Wiwo) described as “a state within the state organized by secret service employees and constitutional protection officers”. In any case, the surveillance affair of Deutsche Telekom had no legal consequences for Klinkhammer, even if the Wiwo claimed in a post that, according to records, he tried to cover up the matter in the course of the legally controversial action.

In May 2006 he announced that he would be leaving the Board of Management of Deutsche Telekom “for reasons of age”. Klinkhammer then worked primarily as a management consultant and occasionally as a lawyer.

Further engagements

He was - with Hans Peter Bull as chairman as well as Monika Böhm and Ulrich Preis - a member of the government commission "Future of the Public Service - Public Service of the Future", which was brought into being by the red-green state government by cabinet decision of November 14, 2000 , constituted on April 27, 2001 and published the report in January 2003.

In September 2004 he was appointed honorary professor at the University of Telecommunications in Leipzig .

From 2005 to 2013 he was a "Policy Fellow" at the Research Institute for the Future of Work (IZA).

In September 2010 he became the new Chairman of the Board of Trustees at the Evangelical Hospital Mülheim (EKM) and was also a member of the EKM Presidium and the Foundation.

He is a member of the board of directors of the SPD- affiliated Friedrich Ebert Foundation .

Private

He is married and has two children.

In the meantime, as Rittmeister of the Prinzengarde of the city of Krefeld in 1914 he belonged to the life guard of the Prince Carnival.

At the beginning of 2015 he was part of a group of 12 Krefeld citizens who bought a traditional restaurant in the Fischeln district in order to secure the central venue for the Fischeln club life as part of a succession plan. As a co-partner of Marienhof Fischeln UG , he is one of the owners of the bunker on Marienplatz.
