The Hermann Maier World Cup run is a ski slope in Flachau in the Salzburger Land in Austria . It belongs to the snow space Flachau ; this winter sports area is part of the Ski amadé network , one of the largest in Austria.
The slope is on the eastern slope of the Grießenkar and ends on the outskirts of Flachau. The first race as part of the Alpine Ski World Cup took place on December 22, 1993; the then held Super-G won the Slovenian Katja Koren . The first men's World Cup race, a giant slalom , took place on January 3rd, 1996 and was won by the Swiss Urs Kälin . In honor of the ski racer Hermann Maier from Flachau, the Grießenkar slope was renamed the Hermann Maier World Cup route on January 3rd, 2004 . Maier's best result in Flachau was a third place in the giant slalom on January 10, 1999.
Men's World Cup races were last held in December 2011. After a five-year break, an annual women's World Cup slalom has been held since January 2010 , usually in the evenings under floodlights . The slalom course is 637 m long; it begins at 1146 m above sea level. A. and ends at 955 m above sea level. A. , which corresponds to a height difference of 191 m. The Hermann Maier World Cup course was part of Salzburg's application for the 2010 Winter Olympics .
