Hermann von Wedel (General, 1848)

Hermann Georg von Wedel (born November 14, 1848 in Blankensee , Pyritz district , † March 28, 1913 in Groß-Lichterfelde ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Hermann was the eldest son of the manor owner Achaz von Wedel (1796–1852) and his second wife Auguste, née Laurin (1811–1880). His half-brother Ernst Achaz von Wedel (1825-1896) was a member of the Prussian manor house .

Military career

After graduating from high school in Stargard , Wedel joined the replacement battalion of the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot of the Prussian Army as a grenadier during the German War and took part in the campaign against Austria. After the peace treaty he was promoted to second lieutenant until the beginning of February 1868 . In the war against France in 1870/71 Wedel was in the sieges of Strasbourg and Paris and the fighting on Mont Valérien . For his behavior he received the Iron Cross II. Class and the Order of St. Stanislaus III. Class with swords.

On June 20, 1872 Wedel was appointed adjutant and investigating officer of the 1st Battalion and at the beginning of September 1874 promoted to Prime Lieutenant . After he had been released from his position as adjutant, he was assigned to the hand weapons revision commission from the beginning of November 1875 to mid-March 1876 and to the training course of the infantry shooting school from mid-March to the end of June 1876. On May 15, 1877 Wedel rose to regimental adjutant and on March 22, 1881 he was employed as captain and chief of the 1st company. From the end of February 1887 to mid-January 1888 he was an adjutant of the 2nd Guard Division and then in the same capacity at the General Command of the 2nd Army Corps . After being released from this command, Wedel briefly returned to the troop service on July 13, 1888, before he was appointed adjutant to the General Command of IX on November 6, 1888 . Commanded Army Corps . Left in his command and promoted to major , he was transferred to the 5th Thuringian Infantry Regiment No. 94 (Grand Duke of Saxony) on April 16, 1889 . With release from his command at the IX. Army Corps was appointed commander of the Fusilier Battalion in Queen Elisabeth's 3rd Guard Grenadier Regiment on September 20, 1890, and in mid-June 1894 he rose to lieutenant colonel .

Wedel was from November 15, 1894 to March 21, 1897 regular staff officer in the Emperor Alexander Guard Grenadier Regiment No. 1 and then as Colonel commander of the Grenadier Regiment "King Friedrich Wilhelm IV." (1st Pomeranian) No. 2 in Szczecin . On November 20, 1900 he was commander of the 8th Infantry Brigade in Gnesen and in January 1904 on the occasion of the festival of the Order he was awarded the star for the Order of the Crown, 2nd class. With his promotion to lieutenant general on May 1, 1904, he was transferred to Glogau as commander of the 9th Division . On April 5, 1906 Wedel was charged with the statutory board for disposition made and on the occasion of its adoption emperor granted him Wilhelm II. The star of Red Eagle II. Class with oak leaves.

Wedel married Margarethe Cretius (* 1852) on June 11, 1874 in Berlin. The son Lupold (* 1875) emerged from the marriage.
