action

Paul, called "Männchen", lives with his daughter, called "Herzblatt", whom he raised alone after the death of his wife. The instructions in a book by Dr. According to Seebauer, he taught Herzblatt not to be shy about her body. Even being naked is normal, Herzblatt learned at a young age. This led to a fixation on the father who is her father, mother, friend and playmate at the same time. Even now, when Herzblatt is well into puberty, she is still bathing with her father, both of them having fun whipping soap, and unabashedly moving around naked in the apartment and on the roof terrace because she is not aware of how she affects men . Paul seeks advice from Dr. Seebauer, who suggests looking for a young man for Herzblatt who should turn her attention from Paul to her partner.

Paul turns to building contractor Max, who has so far suffered indirectly from Herzblatt's charms: his construction site is across from Herzblatt's roof terrace. The workers, in turn, regularly fall from the scaffolding when they want to see the naked sweetheart. Max has three sons: Olaf, Otto and Oskar are each the sporty, alternative and well-behaved type of son. All three are introduced to Herzblatt little by little and she rejects all three at some point. The first kisses her and receives a slap, the second lets her undress, but feels nothing and the third admits to want to sleep with her, but she is not interested. Her ideal is a scene that Ernest Hemingway describes in Whom the Hour Strikes : Here a couple finds each other and the earth shakes - the actual earthquake in the book takes Herzblatt as the ideal of real love, but none of Max's sons have a tremor felt.

Herzblatt is increasingly reacting annoyed because everyone is only talking about sex. The Ministry has published an educational book to be used in the school for educational purposes. However, the teachers have a hard time. When the school newspaper editors now begin to want to sell their own sexual demands through the paper, Herzblatt prefers to write about Hemingway and romantic aspects in his novels - she is excluded from the editorial team. However, she suspects that she is slowly growing up. On the way to school, she repeatedly runs into a young person on a bridge who is handing out flyers. At some point he pushes a sheet of paper into her hand on which he has written “I love you”. Herzblatt reacts uncertainly and finally asks Paul how he noticed that he was in love with her mother. At first he weaves together a strange story, but then admits that it was the simple words "I love you" that he told her. Herzblatt now rushes to the flyer distributor and shows him his paper. Together they drive into nature and kiss in a meadow. Since an explosion is taking place not far away, the earth briefly shakes at the right time.

criticism

For the Catholic film service , Herzblatt or How do I tell my daughter was “a little weird attempt to ironize the contemporary hype about sex stories from puberty in school magazines to sex studies atlas. Flat comedy slapstick, not free from speculative scenes that the film hypocritically pretends to caricature. ”The film was rated much better by the Evangelical Film Observer . This drew the following conclusion: Comedy in which sex is not the same as pornography and which, in addition to some slapstick, also has a refreshing effect.
