Hitler - The Last Ten Days is a British-Italian period film from 1973.

action

The film begins with a conversation between Adolf Hitler and Prof. Karl Gebhardt , whom he will appoint President of the Red Cross.

It follows in a prehistory how the global economic crisis in Germany leads to Adolf Hitler being elected Chancellor. Then comes the opening credits, where the advance and retreat of the Wehrmacht is shown in the background .

The actual film begins with Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels preparing a radio address for the so-called Fuehrer's birthday on April 20, 1945. Shortly afterwards, Captain Hoffmann enters the so-called Führerbunker , in which Adolf Hitler is staying. The captain is asked to wait as the highest generals and politicians of the German Reich congratulate Hitler on his birthday. Also, Eva Braun , the mistress of Adolf Hitler presented.

The lexicon of international films judged: "Measured against the historical image and influence of Hitler's power, the film is an obvious misinterpretation, which also takes the appropriate seriousness from the kitsch effects when depicting facts that have become known."

The lavishly produced feature film is the second attempt to reconstruct the days in the Führerbunker . Georg Wilhelm Pabst presented the first feature film on this subject in 1955 with The Last Act . The third attempt is the movie Der Bunker (1981) with Anthony Hopkins in the role of Adolf Hitler. In 2004 Oliver Hirschbiegel took up the topic again with his film The Downfall .
