Coordinates: 58 ° 18 ′ N , 14 ° 17 ′ O Hjo is a municipality ( Swedish commun ) on the west bank of Lake Vättern in the Swedish province of Västra Götalands län and the historic province of Västergötland . The main town of the municipality is the city of Hjo .
geography
The municipality extends for about 35 kilometers along the western bank of Lake Vättern. A few kilometers inland, the ridge of the Hökensås mountain runs parallel to the lake. On its west side is the valley of the Tidan River and its tributary Yan. While Hökensås is barren and forested, both the strip of beach between the lake and the mountain and the valley of the Tidan are used for agriculture.
