The Holstuonarmusigbigbandclub ( HMBC or Holstuonar for short ) was an Austrian band of new folk music from Vorarlberg that was founded in 2003. She was best known for the song Vo Mello bis ge Schoppornou (High German from Mellau to Schoppernau ), which entered the charts in the summer of 2010 and reached number 2 in Austria. The group's music is a mixture of Vorarlberg folk music and modern pop, with influences from jazz , funk , reggae and hip-hop . In most of their songs they sang in the Vorarlberg dialect.

history

The eponymous Holstuonar were alpine farmers who got together in the evening in the living room and made music. The band consists of five members who studied or are studying at the Austrian music academies. Johannes Bär from Andelsbuch studied trumpet at the Mozarteum Salzburg, Stefan Bär from Langenegg studied at the Vorarlberg State Conservatory . Andreas Broger comes from Mellau and studied instrumental and vocal pedagogy and saxophone classical at the Tyrolean State Conservatory . Bartholomäus Natter, also from Mellau, studies the trumpet at the Mozarteum Salzburg. Phillip Lingg from Schoppernau now lives in Vienna and studies musicology and music education at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna .

The band made their first appearance one day before New Year's Eve 2003. Since then they have risen from regional to national notoriety in the Austrian music scene. The first two albums Querschlager (2007) and free sin (2008) contain almost exclusively cover versions of well-known German-language hits and international pop songs.

The breakthrough came with Vo Mello to ge Schoppornou , one of the first songs written by the band. The song is in the dialect of the rear Wälderischen sung and even for Vorarlberg not always easy to understand. It is about a boozy evening and the way home, which in the absence of public transport is done partly by hitchhiking with a German cook and partly by a long walk that hurts the feet.

The song, created in 2009, spread from Vorarlberg radio stations to other federal states in 2010, was finally played by national radio stations and reached number 2 in the Austrian single charts in mid-October 2010 . The video produced in spring 2010 also contributed to the distribution. The official version, which was posted on YouTube on July 9, 2010 , had one million views at the end of October 2010. In Bavaria, at the end of the year, the song was voted “Favorite of the Year” by listeners to the radio show hosted by Matthias Matuschik on Bayern 3 . The entry into the German single charts followed in January 2011 .

At the beginning of November 2010 it was announced that fans had proposed the HMBC via Facebook for the Austrian preliminary decision for the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest . However, the band decided not to take part in the preliminary decision.

On April 26th 2011 the HMBC presented their second single Vorreasso, vorkouft, as louft . Two weeks later, on May 13, 2011, the Lieble album was released . At the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards ceremony on May 1, 2012, Vo Mello to ge Schoppornou were awarded the title “Song of the Year”. In the same year the holstuonarmusigbigbandclub released the first live CD grüsele live on October 26th .

On February 21, 2014, the band released the video Life after Facebook as a thank you for the fans and as a foretaste of the fourth studio album to be released in autumn 2014 . The first single of the new album, which was released on May 2, 2014, is entitled Wild West Coast of Austria and pays homage to the home of the musicians. Shortly afterwards the album hearad was presented.

In March 2015, Philipp Lingg retired from the HMBC. Ossi Weber and Stefan Hörtnagl were introduced as new band members.

In April 2016 the hmbc released its new album "Crazy live". You can hear a live recording of a concert and the single "Crazy Night". The musicians have also released the music video "Crazy night" for the song "Crazy night".

In November 2016, the band announced via press release that the last hmbc concert would take place in Andelsbuch train station on May 28, 2017 and that the band members would then go their separate ways.

After more than 15 years of band history, over 1000 concerts at home and abroad, an Amadeus Austrian Music Award and a Gold Award, the musicians gave their last concert on May 28, 2017.
