The VFR 800 X is a motorcycle from the Japanese vehicle manufacturer Honda . The all-rounder was presented on November 7, 2010 at the EICMA two-wheeler fair in Milan . Sales started in May 2011, the sales name is Crossrunner [ krɒs ˈrʌnəʳ ] ( German  cross-country runner ). For the 2015 model year, the Honda Crossrunner has been completely redesigned. The design was based on the Crosstourer. The model code is now RC 80.

concept

The Crossrunner combines the engine, the frame and the full fairing of a sports tourer with the chassis of a travel enduro and is marketed by the manufacturer as an adventure bike. While the motorcycle is listed in the Enduro category in the sales program and on the Honda website , the factory code is RC 60. At Honda, RC denotes street motorcycles, while Enduros have the identifier RD.

According to the " Motorradfahrer " magazine , Honda has "given a road machine, in this case the Honda VFR , a new outfit, extended suspension travel" and added "a high handlebar for a tourist posture".

technology

It is driven by a liquid-cooled four - cylinder engine with a displacement of 782 cm³. The cylinder bank angle of the transversely mounted V-engine is 90 °. The four-stroke engine generates a nominal output of 75 kW (102 hp) and a maximum torque of 74 Nm. The four cylinders have a bore of 72 mm in diameter, the pistons have a stroke of 48 mm and a compression ratio of 11.6: 1. The four valves per cylinder are controlled by two overhead camshafts with variable valve timing ( VTEC ). From a speed of 7000 min −1 the motor switches from two to four valve operation. The mixture preparation is carried out by a programmed manifold injection (engl. Programmed-Fuel Injection, PGM-FI ). A transistor ignition system with electronic advance adjustment generates the ignition spark. An electric starter starts the engine.

The chassis is built on an aluminum bridge frame and has an aluminum single-sided swing arm at the rear and a telescopic fork with a 43 mm standpipe diameter at the front . The power is converted by a six-speed gearbox, the secondary drive by an O-ring chain . A hydraulically operated multi-plate oil bath clutch separates the engine from the gearbox.

A double disc brake with three-piston brake calipers decelerates on the front tire, and a disc brake with two-piston brake caliper at the rear. A combined anti-lock braking system supports the deceleration on both brakes. The motorcycle accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds and reaches an electronically governed top speed of 200 km / h.

The exhaust gas aftertreatment is carried out by a regulated catalytic converter and complies with emission class EURO3 . The 4-2-1 exhaust system is made of stainless steel. The exhaust manifolds open on the right side in a common end silencer .

Motorcycles with comparable engine characteristics or chassis geometry and a displacement of less than one liter are the BMW F 800 GS , Yamaha TDM 900 , KTM 990 Supermoto T , the Kawasaki Versys 1000 and the Triumph Tiger 800 .

Reviews

"After all - unless you are oversized - you are comfortably accommodated on the fun travel machine, it comes with a formidable ABS as standard, and the V4 known from the VFR is not bad either."

“With the Crossrunner, Honda Motorrad has delivered a more than convincing overall package. The engine delivers more than enough power, even if it could be more powerful at the bottom. On the go, the Honda is pure fun machine. Great handling with good comfort. This makes the Crossrunner both comfortable and sporty. But it doesn't please everyone. It is not a case for two, unless you leave your luggage at home. "

- Matthias Hirsch : bikerszene.de

"The Crossrunner is too heavy for a fun bike, too spartan for a tourer, not suitable for off-road use for an enduro, and too disguised for a naked bike."

- Michael Pfeiffer : 2 wheels
