The University of Houston ( English : University of Houston ; UH for short ) is a state university in the city of Houston in the US state of Texas . With over 36,000 students, it is the premier location of the University of Houston System and the third largest university in Texas.

history

The UH was founded on March 7, 1927 with 232 students as Houston Junior College . In 1934 it was given its current name and in 1939 it moved to today's campus. From 1985 to 1988 the college was named University of Houston – University Park .
