The district of Huac-Huas , alternative spellings: District Huac Huas and District Huacuas , is located in the province of Lucanas in the Ayacucho region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on April 8, 1929. It has an area of 313 km². The 2017 census counted 1732 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2216, in 2007 it was 2704. The district administration is located in the 3170 m high village of Huac-Huas with 582 inhabitants (as of 2017). Huac-Huas is located 108 km northwest of the provincial capital Puquio .
Geographical location
The Huac-Huas district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the extreme northwest of the Lucanas Province. The longitudinal extent in SSW-NNE direction is 22 km, the maximum width about 16 km. The Río Grande , which flows south, limits the district to the west.
The district of Huac-Huas borders in the southwest and west on the districts Río Grande and Tibillo (both in the province of Palpa ), in the northwest and in the north on the districts of Ocoyo and Santiago de Quirahuara (both in the province of Huaytará ) and in the southeast the Llauta district .
