IC 414 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type S in the constellation Orion in the northern sky . It is estimated to be 196 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 30,000 ly.
In the same area of ​​the sky are the galaxies IC 409 , IC 412 , IC 413 , among others .

The object was discovered on November 8, 1891 by the American astronomer Sherburne Wesley Burnham .
