IC 402 is a spiral galaxy of Hubble type Sc in the constellation Eridanus at the southern sky . It is estimated to be 144 million light-years from the Milky Way and about 105,000 light-years across. The galaxy is considered a member of the NGC 1752 group ( LGG 126 ).
In the same area of the sky is u. a. the galaxy NGC 1779 .
The object was discovered by Frank Muller on December 12, 1887 .
