IC 388 is an optical pair of galaxies in the constellation Eridanus in the southern sky . IC 388-1 is estimated to be 241 million light years, whereas IC 388-2 is about 199 million light years from the Milky Way .
The object was discovered by Stéphane Javelle on January 28, 1892 .
